A lense question

looking at the zooms on offer which if you could only buy one would you go for. 18 - 200/300 or 55 - 200/300. Also would this effectively make the kit lens redundant. I have seen lenses from Tamron, Sigma and even a Pentax DA offered at around the £200 mark, would these be decent quality?
I already have an old tamron adaptall 2 that i used on my me super. I know i can use this lens (cant I ?) but havent tried it yet!
Advice most welcome.

If I were only permitted one lens, I would not use a DSLR.

it depends what you want if its an all in one it would have to be an 18-200mm or 18-250mm sigma, tamron, pentax, also sigma have got an 18-270mm, that has hsm built in but its £500, any of these lenses you would not need to change your lens and would not need the 18-55mm kit lens, and if you went for a 55-300 or 70-300mm your 18-55mm kit lens would still be needed, and as for quality i have an 18-200mm tamron and i am very pleased with it,i have a k20 witch i keep my tamron 18-200mm on all the time and a k200d witch i keep a sigma aspherical apo 170-500mm on all the time, hope this helps
heres a couple pics with it.

For travelling light(?) I've just got a Sigma 18-200. It covers the range I use frequently on short city breaks.

An 18/28-300 could be a good lens, but I've not seen any reports/reviews on this type, although the vignetting and apertures seem to be a problem at these extremes.

Try the Adaptall 2 lens.
I have the 17mm f3.5, 35-80mm f2.8, 70-210mm f3.5 and a 90mm f2.8 macro all using a Adaptall 2 PK/A mount and to be honest I think they compare very favourably with the new lenses.

Which model do you have?

Singular - LENS
Plural - LENSES

I believe the choice is entirely up to your needs.

both the Tamron/Pentax 18-250mm and Pentax 55-300mm are very popular lenses with very decent image quality.

Your 80-210mm will do everything current lenses will do apart from AF if you use the Adaptall 2 PK/A mount .. if you use the plain K mount then it's all manual.

HERE is my Ebay auction.
