We spent a week in eastern Germany, should have been longer, but for the dog getting ill. Anyway here are a few photos of the trip

1. Said dog, Timber, and our campervan

2. Sunset by Plankow. It looks a lot more peaceful than it was. No one told us about Herrentag. The noise of drunken men echoed across the lake.

3. The power station at Peenemünde, built by the Nazis to provide power for the development of rockets, it remained in use through the DDR period. Now a very informative, thought provoking museum.

4. One of the products of Peenemünde research - a V2 rocket

5. And a V1.

6. Red jackets are the curse of photographers everywhere. Thankfully it works (I think) in mono.

Should any of you ever venture as far as Peenemünde I can thoroughly recommend not only the museum but the town and the area around it. Until recently it was all off limits, but is slowly being developed as a nature reserve and museum area. Very well presented, with information in English, and a spoken commentary available too for more information. As I said very though provoking.

Nice shots Gwyn - all great but number 2 is a stunner
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

Very informative Gwyn...thanks for posting.

Funnily enough I have just been reading an old aircraft magazine that's been in the magazine rack for years unread..."Flypast" magazine from March 2009 ! There is a really interesting article in it about Squadron Leader Joe Berry of the Royal Air Force and his unit who were responsible for developing tactics to defeat and destroy the VI 'Doodlebugs'...although apparently this was the term coined by civilians...the RAF aircrew called them 'Divers'.

Berry, who destroyed dozens of V1s (out of an estimated 10,000 launched at the UK) was shot down and killed over the Netherlands on October 2nd 1944 and was subsequently buried in the churchyard at Scheemda, Netherlands. He was only 24.

Back to your images...Timber is a great looking dog..hope he has recovered/ is recovering.

regards

Karlo

Many thanks for sharing - I really like the look of that gorgeous van, and a fine dog to go with it.

The sunset is magnificent.
Best regards, John

The last pic is the best one IMO. I like B&W, especially because outdoors you need to find the right day with the right light.
