A few from NYC

During a couple of trips to NYC this year I have taken a few pictures while walking around. This is not my photographic environment, and many of the shots where taken in a dull gray day. So all comments and constructive criticism are very welcome.

And one taken at night:

Thanks!

I love the building with the trees! I also really like the first one you posted (of the billboards), there's loads to look at. The traffic lights are nice too. The mono cityscape looks a tad bright to me, but that could be my monitor.

Thanks for the comments!

And BTW: the billboard, the building and the traffic lights shot are taken with the Pentax DA 18-135: my view is that in real life it is a pretty good lens, although criticized in some tests.

The first billboard picture is a stunning montage. It sums up my idea of New York, though I've never been there. I also really like the traffic signals, the red light compliments the red of the window blinds. Were the aerial shots taken from a skyscraper or do you work alongside Aliengrove?

New York is one of the few big cities I like, and your images really remind me of it. I too, like the billboard shot a great deal. The BW shots from the top of the Empire State Building look a bit too harsh to me? I can't quite put my finger on why though, perhaps too much sharpening or maybe just too much contrast.

I'm glad you like the 18-135 as I am still tempted to get one for those rare occasions I manage to force myself to travel light.

David: those pictures were taken from the Empire State Building.

Womble and Aliengrove: you are right, too much contrast I think. I will post a new version later and hopefully it will look better.

Terrific set - and as everyones saying the billboards are great (I like #3 almost as much as the first one)

We've got 3 nights in NY end of July (family hols) so these have really got me excited, and revved up my LBA and kit plans another notch (curse you ). If I can come back with images half as good as this I'll be pleased

I prefer the new treatment of the cityscape.

Thanks Tim.

And regarding your LBA, you just need a short walk to 9th ave for a tour of B&H.

Try adding a horizontal grad filter along the top half to gradually darken and soften the stuff in the distance.
