Very well put Steve. I for one am looking forward to receiving some blatantly sh!te comments from you on my images

I think it is also interesting that there seems to be more interest in a discussion about commenting than actually commenting

Maybe an additional section of the forum could be created for commenting on work, something separate from 'Your photos' so you could specifically indicate you'd like comments. Any photo (not author) in that section would then be fair game...

As has been mentioned, a bit more of a narrative as to what you trying to achieve, what problems you had and any useful techniques used (either during capture or PP) would help set the scene.

This subject comes up at least once every 6 months or so and gets a similar amount of comments each time. What happens is that there is a lot more critique in the photos section (as you can currently see for yourself) for a few days and then it goes back to normal ... until the next time.

I have obviously been here far too long and so am off to find myself a more uninteresting forum where I don't notice such things (or can't be bothered to comment on them anyway)

As McGregNi says and I agree, it depends on the photo and how it is presented.
I recently put up a photo entitled "Not a burger in sight" As a photo it was absolute crap but this was because of the situation and the camera I used and the digital zoom. However I put it up as a bit of a laugh and expected no C&C.
On the other hand I put up some Macro shots as a first time effort and asked for C&C and got it and learned from it.
CHEERS Vic.
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.

Quite agree too. Though its also worth remembering that ones man's meat is another man's poison!

I like the idea of having an anonymous photos forum, maybe with a competitive element also. It would be interesting to remove the personality aspect from it, although obviously some individuals styles will clearly show through and identify them.

But I do think that often comments are somewhat tailored to individuals, which may or may not be helpful in any single case.

Maybe we could have the first 10 shots put up on the new forum every day open for discussion, then a vote on a favourite. Only after that would the photographers be revealed. Obviously there has to be a way of getting the images up without them being posted from the users own account. Just an idea.

We did have an anonymous competition for a short while. It was a lot of work, and in the end not well supported so it died a death. It isn't possible to post photos anonymously.

I wonder if anybody strip out identity information from digital images before sending them to judges. If not they can find out who I am using Photome.

You've got to tailor the comments for the individual Nigel. You could destroy a beginner with critique that would be perfectly reasonable for an experienced photographer.

So anon isn't a good idea

I don't it's fair to expect people to try and leave a comment on every image they view.
