I use ESET Smart Security. I also use SUPERAntiSpyware.
I wrote to ESET for their advice and they recommended that I also use SUPERAntiSpyware as, apparently, no spyware program can detect every item of spyware. SUPERAtispyware updates automatically when new spyware definitions are needed.

Just upgraded to osx Leopard....

going on five or six years with no virus/spyware problems.

My only concern right now is this:

Having gone from osx Panther to osx Tiger to osx Leopard... I worry about Apple running out of big cats to name future upgrades. What's next osx Lion? Ocelot? Garfield?

sorry, I listed only some...Cheetah, puma and jaguar have also been used.
We're getting desperate it's pretty much down to Lion (lyin') or Garfield (complete with slot loading lassangia tray...)

A few years back, Norton was just fine, but then it grew out of all proportions. When my computer showed significantly performance reduction, I switched to PCCillin from Trend Micro. This seems to work very well.

A shame, really, because I sort of grew up with Norton tools (Disc Doctor, Norton Commander, etc. and these tools never let me down.

Are you people adding the cost of tech suport, down time and virus/spyware software to the cost of ownership on your peecees?

Well I've changed my opinion on anti-virus programs. Norton has been removed from all my computers and replaced with AVG. Matt, you are quite right, everything is now even faster than it was before.

However, the main reason is a recent attack on our three forums (ADAPS, johnriley1uk and rileyuk) by a nasty little thing called Exploit WebAttacker. We will sort it out, but it will take time.

Norton just looked at the infection and shrugged its shoulders with a "cannot repair" message, but AVG has picked it up straight away and prevented further damage.

I'm not sure what sick people get pleasure from causing havoc, but I'm not letting it discourage me, despite all the wasted hours over the past couple of days!

John - glad that's helped. Although be aware that AVG still misses some "in the wild viruses"... not as many as Norton, but still some. Eset on the other hand have a 100% hit rate - even with 6 month old pattern files they still get most viruses

Unpicking exploits is a right pain Wish these people had something better to do

Download and install this http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php do a 'update' before you scan your computer. It seems to be a well respected programme

Having trouble finding time... one of the big troubles is which direction to take this flash guide. I've included a chapter on various common lighting problems and some hints on how to tackle them, plus a chapter on the settings for various dSLRs I have (or had). But there's always some cross-over of information, and getting this penned sensibly is proving challenging!
It all just "fits" together in my head... but putting it down is harder
