Cannot find Jpeg on my CS3

Just got a new PC, Vista OS, and I have loaded Lightroom and CS3 but even if I open a Jpeg image from Lightroom into CS3 I can’t save as a Jpeg, it only offers Tiff and a few other options but not Jpeg.

If I try save for web option it only offers Gif. Have looked in the Preferences files but can’t see any option to change this.

Now on my old PC, XP OS, I have, had no problem exporting or saving a file as a Jpeg,

Help Please, in little words please, I use the things but don’t understand the way they work. As an example I just ordered 'one of those wireless thingies' suprisingly I got what I wanted, and it works, I like people with imagination

It has to do with the bit size, you probable are in 16bit and jpg doesn't support that. you can set down the bit rate in Image > Mode > 8 Bits/Channel. if it's already on 8bit then something else is the problem but this the most likely one so give it a go.

If you have created layers in your image and not flattened it, then this will also restrict the save options.

Also if you have not converted a RAW file to JPEG or TIFF in the RAW converter, maybe that is a problem. When you do this, convert to 8 bit as mentioned.

Thank you all so much, it was set to 16 bit but I have changed that. I can save a tiff file as a jpeg if I 'save for web' which is fine as that is the only time I would wish to save in Jpeg. However a Tiff or RAW file can't be saved in Jpeg with the usual 'save as' comand as the option is not given.

On my old PC it was so it must be a setting, but blowed if I can find it, perhaps it is all to do with the number of bits but at the moment it has me puzzled.

Oh! By the way I am flattening them first.

If you are going from lightroom to CS3, why not go back to lightroom when you have finished the edits in CS3 and use the lightroom export function? Much better workflow that way and keeps your lightroom library up to date.

Cheers, Kris.

I do it so as Jackie, and since I use CS4 it opens the original DNG file with the changes aplied with Lightroom. So if I save I save it over the original file so i saved it as tiff if needed or straight to jpg if I wouldn't do any proccessing later or if the processing was simple.

btw I love the crop tool in lightroom with the third rule lines in it, is there anyway to get them in photoshop as well?
