77/1.8 size

hi all,

i never realised how compact the fa limiteds were!

one annoying thing about my 70/2.4 is that the hood doubles the size of it. it makes me think that the 77/1.8 is pretty much the same size, but has an integrated hood, so essentially there is no size penalty for the extra speed.

so does anyone have any idea about the size of the 77/1.8 compared to the 70/2.4 with hood attached?

thanks for your help!

The specs for the 77/1.8 are here - 48mm long.

For comparison, the 70/2.4 specs are here - 26mm long without hood. You should be able to measure up against your 70mm (not sure if the length is overall length, or from the body)

HTH!

The 77 is, in my opinion, just right in size - neither so small as to be fiddly in use or too large to be unwieldy. In terms of dimensions and weight it's pretty much a dead ringer for the DA 35 Macro, both also sharing the same slide-out hood design.

I've never tried a DA70 but I did try a DA40 and found it too small for my fat fingers to get a comfortable grip on...

thanks both, that does help. my main issue was trying to get it to fit in the da limited lens case with two other da limiteds. and i reckon it should fit in easily.

now to think about the funding aspect...

thanks again!

The FA 77 sacrifices nothing for its speed and FF coverage. Somewhere on his blog Hin Man has a shot of both side by side. OK, I found it.
