I think you've answered your own question Paul. Use the Pentax release and it should fit properly!
Best regards, John

I was thinking that something like this could do the job to get rid of the right angle connector to the camera which seems to be the same problem on the K30

I have one around some where in a box full of guitar effects pedals but I cannot find it.

Thanks for your comments folks.
I bought a Pentax cs 205 and voila it works perfectly.
There is actually quite a difference in the profile of the right angle connector cf.Canon and others. So if you want a cable release to work properly with the 645D you need to buy the Pentax one.

There is a tendency for the cable releases to work loose in the socket which is not helped by the design of the rim around the socket and the right angle cable connection onto the mini jack. I have noticed similar effects on the K5. If the cable rotates, which it easily does, then at certain positions it does not make the connection. Focusing is achieved but the shutter will not fire.To make the release work consistently on the 645D I have to press & hold the jack into the socket- somewhat negates the purpose!
Incidently,I have been using mirror lockup and 2sec. delayed release as an alternative.
I am not using the pentax cs 205 but have used several other releases incl the Canon RS-60E3 which is supposed to be identical to the Pentax cs 205. Maybe the simple answer is to use the Pentax cs 205 but I would value advice from other users.
many thanks
Paul
