540 FGZ ii - Can it do wireless P-TTL HSS?

As the title says really.

Saw Chris' excellent post using his Cactus set up for off camera HSS. This is something that could benefit me with a business idea that I have coming up so I was wondering if this was something the current flash I have now could do also, either on it's own or with a compatible HSS trigger or if I need to look at a whole new flash set up?

Thanks in advance

It can. I have not used HSS a lot but have given it a try in the past. You will need two transceiver units (I use Cactus V6II). One on the camera and one on the flash.

If you later wanted to add another flash into the mix you could just buy a Cactus RF60X which has a receiver built in.

I don't know about HSS I've never tried it but if you also have the 540GGZ basic then put that on the camera and with the correct prog. you can fire the 540 ii with it. This means you have both flashes at the same time one on the camera and one off. this works by radio. SO, You could always try and cover the flash on he camera up so it has no effect but still fires the one off the camera????????????????????????? Just a thought. If you try it let me/us know if it works.
CHEERS Vic.

Not quite. What you are describing is optical flash. The flash on the camera controls the off camera unit by optical means (a third flash). There is no radio involved. However in situations where you want to use HSS, the scene you are photographing will be quite well lit with ambient light. This can present a problem for optical triggering as not only does the off camera flash need its optical receiver to be in sight of the on camera flash, but it needs to be getting a bright enough signal. If it is inside a softbox for example it will be very hit or miss. That is where radio triggers like the Cactus units come in.

Excellent, thanks all, so I need minimum 2 X Cactus V6II triggers

K3 built in flash can act as controller or fill flash with hss if memory serves me correctly.
I’ve always preferred to use the off camera cable kit for hss.
If you want radio, you might consider the Godox system.
It’s astounding and affordable
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Radio triggers will be more flexible than optical triggering as I explained above. You will need two.

I use Cactus but others swear by other systems.

Yes +1 to that. I knew nothing about flash until I read Nigel's guides and asked him a ton of questions on here.

He hasn't been on this site for months, but is active on the US one. Anyone upset him here?
