what I'd really like would be a digital back for my Auto 110, but that's even less likely
Wow - what an idea! I have the 110 kit, an aps-c sized sensor would fit, but would there be room for any of the rest of the electronics? I guess if they can build a VGA web cam into a largish pencil, then they wouldn't have too difficult a time cramming it all in...

Ultra portable, reasonably fast glass - a digital SLR that takes up less room than many compacts - what more could anyone want?

DISCLAIMER : This would be an additional camera... I wouldn't trade my K10 for it...

Have you seen the webcams on notebooks, like the newer MacBooks? They are about 2mm lens and 6mm diameter cameras with most of the electronics within a 2cm space.

Big difference with DSLRs is all the extra processing, memory, display, motors controls... Although I don't see why a digital back would not be possible.

Unfortunately none of my cameras have exchangeable backs, plus I've got a K10 anyway.

PS. Anyone else think K10 sounds better than K10D?

I think the ideal sensor would be the 4/3rds one, it's a slightly different aspect ratio but the same 2x crop factor as 110 film so probably close enough for the lenses to cover it. If I was Pentax I would have at least looked into reviving System 10, even if only for the bragging rights of "smallest DSLR" (stick that one in your pipes and smoke it Olympus!).

I thought for a while about trying to bodge a sensor into a 110 film cart, but decided it is beyond my abilities and quite possibly isn't possible at all due to the thickness of the CCD.
