I don't know if anyone is interested since I know I'm rather late to this party, but I've tested the F 70-210 and DA 50-200 side by side. My subjective opinion is that the 70-210 is oh so fractionally sharper while the 50-200 is more contrasty.
If the 50-200 is almost as good as the 70-210, then it's a very fine lens.

it's probably worth baring in mind that my example of the F 70-210 is from ebay with unknown heritage. It seems in good condition but who knows what it has suffered. That said, it has always been my opinion that the 50-200 IS a very fine lens. I think it has more consumer oriented optics than the 70-210. That is, it may not be quite as sharp but it is more contrasty and the colours have a bit more punch. A photo taken with the 50-200 is often more immediately pleasing from the camera, while the 70-210 may well produce a shot with more potential for editing and improvement.
you don't have to be mad to post here

I ordered from Jacobs on Friday at £49.99 plus shipping =£57.99 hardly daring to imagine that it might arrive, but this morning it did.

Their web ordering service would not accept either of my cards, but a telephone order was accepted OK

Good luck!
I have just ordered one myself, spoke to them and the problem with the web is a mastercard has to be registered for securecode authentication to be accepted, VISA has its own version aswell. After that went through fine.

I'm not really impressed with the performance of the 50-200 although the size is wonderful.

I've been seeing similar performance on mine, really want to get the DA*60-250F4 to replace it.

Also just got the Samsung version for £49.99 from Jacobs. I was going to perservere with my old F100-300 (the power zoom one), but couldn't resist . Quite apart from the lens quality the size is a big factor - if I'm on a 'non-photographic' trip I can stick it in my pocket.

I'm not in the market for DA*'s etc and I don't think there is any way you can get a better lens than this for the price, even S/H. I paid - slightly - more for the 100-300 off eBay than this one.

Maybe there's some variation between individual lenses, but we're getting cracking results from both of ours.

John, what size are you printing to please?

We only ever print to A3, for the purposes of competitions and exhibitions.

When I make images that are intended for publication these too are sized for A3 at 300ppi.

Web images are usually sized to EPZ e2 size and are made from the A3 versions.
