35mm film processing

Where would you suggest I develop 35mm films, and get them scanned and put onto photo CD? I'm led to believe that most high street places are terrible (i know first hand that their photoCDs are very lacking, nowhere near the resolution i want)
Are there any online mail order places that you'd suggest? I forgotten to mention that I'm a fairly poor student, so value for money is a consideration.

Thanks in advance!

There is a basic problem that the quality processors, such as Transpacolor, will be more expensive. The high resolution CD (18MB files) will add around £10 to your processing cost. But the results are spot on.

If you are processing black and white films then I would suggest you do that yourself - this will be relatively cheap and the quality will be as good as your technique. If you could find a good quality second hand film scanner then it would not take too many filns before you were in pocket on the deal. A Nikon Coolscan IV would be a good choice with 2929 dpi resolution. Its 35.5MB files should be more than good enough.

You could even process C41 or E6 films at home, but that is a little more complex than b/w.
Best regards, John

I have always found peak-imaging.com based in Sheeffield to be very good, but not necesarily the cheapest

I've used these people for years http://www.directfoto.co.uk/Default.asp?state_sessionid=blewuccrzttffziuwcecolauvrhogonjkplalmvxwezzkxgzcq

Good quality, fast service, free films / discs and excellent value.

I don't know of anyone else that uses them but I've always been happy with the results.
Die my dear doctor, that's the last thing I shall do!
