300 dpi from a *ist DS ???

Hi Steve,
I have not come across anything on the camera to change this. I shoot using RAW most of the time and in that mode the camera sets the resolution at 240 pixels per inch (correct me if I’m wrong but it’s only printers that talk about dots per inch). This is just the kind of annoyance you get with Pentax – sorry but true!
You have Photoshop so I assume you know how to change it (IMAGE< IMAGE SIZE>. The important thing is the pixel size, you can set the resolution to what you want to give you the pint size you want. The fact that the “tag” that the camera sets is not changeable in the camera is just an annoyance but will give rather a large print if you don’t do something about it, 41.7 x 27.7 inches! – well done PENTAX!

Well done Pentax indeed, for leaving to the camera those things that the camera does best, and leaving to the computer those things which the computer does best.
These are not point and shoot cameras. Post-processing is expected, and there are far more options available in the computer than you will ever get in any camera. Why duplicate?

In Photoshop go to Image>Image Size and you can change the pixels/inch resolution, the image output size and the number of pixels as you wish. This is the place to do it, not in the camera even if you could.

I think generally any camera shooting jpeg will tag the file as 72 dpi. That has nothing to do with resolution, if you change the dpi to 300 without resampling you have the exact same photo, just the metadata has been tagged at 300 dpi.
I beleive shooting TIFF gives you 240 dpi, but as an old darkroom hound I have only shot RAW. I probably will never really need anything else, and with RAW it's the converter that sets the dpi.

I have been backwards and forwards though the manual but all my photos from the DS show 72dpi in all my graphics software (Photoshop CS, Paintshop Pro, etc.).
Photos from my old Nikon 4500 compact show at 300 dpi.
I have the DS set to 6million pixels and BEST out put (3 stars) and cannot see any other settings for this at all).
Can anyone help ??
