how does one get multi colors off one gel?
simple.. in a multi light set up you have TWO ways to color your final image... colored gels and whitebalance.
this is where having some color theory knowlege comes in handy...

by using a strong orange gel on one light, and a blue color cast set in the white balance setting on the camera, all ungelled lights appear blue, while the areas lit with the orange gel can be made anywhere from orange to just a touch warmer than neutral.

k10, 16-45, manual settings 1/125 at f10 to kill ambient light in the hall way where this was shot.
the props are from an actual tv series shot here in winnipeg, called Todd and the Book of Pure Evil (find it on Space channel)... sorry about the logo stuff, this was an event for promotional purposes...
