You shouldn't discount the possibility that BOTH your copies of the 18-55 Mk1 and Sigma 10-20 may be below par?

There seemed to be a huge difference between the Mk1 & 2, yet most reviews I've read (and my own experience) show that there shouldn't be much difference, certainly not as large as that shown in the pics above.

Also, the Sigma 10-20mm seems to have more than its fair share of bad press regarding 'sub standard' copies?

Hi John, you've not read the text properly I'm with
Virgin and have never been with Sky. I don't use that router
anymore and in any case bought it off ebay

My current router has the SSID " VIRUS SERVER" if anyone
fancies loging on

It's possible that the Sigma lens isn't focused accurately. Select the best from several different manual focus attempts to eliminate focus problems.
I did think that which is why i'm going to do further tests. I did use manual focus and used a 2x Pentax refconverter, but the Sigma is a difficult lens to focus. I tried some tests outside, but the sun kept going in and out and they weren't conclusive.

Thats a good point, but the 2 mark1 lenses i've tried at 6mp have both been soft at the edges.

Mine was a bit soft at the edges as well at 6 MP, but not terrible.
