'Lightroom' V. 'Lightzone'

I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of weeks and decided to jump in and join the fun. I've been a Pentax user for over twenty years now and had settled on a kit based around an LX and an MZ5N. Yesterday, I took the plunge and bought a K10D. I spent yesterday wading through the instruction manual and spent most of today looking for a RAW converter that will work on Linux and PEF files. I found both LightZone, and this thread, about the same time.

I don't know if this will help Mongoose but I downloaded the tar file and extracted it to /home/<username>/LightRoom. To get it to run I opened a console and typed:

sh /home/<username>/LightRoom/LightRoom

I'm not sure if it will work on your flavour of Linux but give it a try.

Two things strike me. If you've used Photoshop you're in for a real learning curve. The philosophy seems to be entirely diferent but if you've ever harboured Zoney tendencies, this could be for you. Secondly, it's a real resource hog. My machine is not exactly cutting edge but I've never run an application that pages so much data on and off the hard drive all the time.

Still, I haven't found another RAW converter that opens PEF files yet so it's got to be worth perservering with.

Hope some of this helps.

Adrian
