"compact" holster case for K5

Look at the Lowepro Rezo Toploader Zoom cases, they come in various sizes, are very well made, and not horribly expensive either.

Don't worry about that blocked site - I used to work in a school's IT tech support unit and our site blacklist frequently threw up completely innocent sites as being undesirable. The fact that the word "holster" is involved probably triggered the filter to block it as being related to weapons.

I know it isn't what you are looking for Simon, but your thread got me thinking and I have just bought one of these for my K-5. I didn't pay that price for it though .

I find myself increasingly carrying the K-5 just in my shoulder bag rather than in a camera bag, so this provides it with some protection. A bit of a struggle to get on and off so not for that quick photo, but great for when the camera is lurking at the bottom of my bag. The next size up (the Pro) or even the zoom version would be easier to remove I suspect, but I am happy with this one.

I also have a Tenba bag insert on order, as I couldn't be bothered to make my own .

As a coincidence Gwyn I've bought pretty much the same thing from Ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Neoprene-Protector-Case-Bag-Pouch-4-Olympus-Pentax-DSLR-/1...

It's a tight fit and whilst it doesn't provide the protection of a holster case it should be ideal for going in my normal rucksack when hiking, the holster case I use now just takes up too much space

Having said that I've just bought a Lowepro Primus AW photo rucksack too that I'm waiting delivery of so might end up not using this much

Simon,

Which body / lens is the neoprene a tight fit on? Interested for a K-x which may be smaller than what you are using it for.

Thanks,
Sharon.

K5 & DA17-70...whilst it's tight the neoprene does stretch a little so it still fits ok

I am pleased with my LowePro Altus 120. It is just right for my K-r with one kit lens attached, plus it has a zipped pocket for the other kit lens and another zipped pocket for a spare battery and SD card. It can be carried as a holster or shoulder bag. I bought it at PCWorld.

Continuing the search for a small bag for the K5 has anyone used the Domke F3x link or the Domke F8 link?

thanks

might one of these fit the bill?

Thanks for the suggestion Steffan but I'm thinking the holster bags are not quite as discreet as I would like - the Domke F5XB also looks like another option

I don't know Domke so can't helo you with that

I'm actually looking at the Retrospective from Think Tank for myself.
I don't like most of their bags though or the black they use but the Retrospective has a classic design and they are small but deep, something most bags aren't...
And they come not in black as well.

I don't know how large you want the bag but what do you think of these?

Just need to check them in the store on how they really look the brown/gray colour and how it feels.

Just read a little more on the Think Tank bags and they certainly get good feedback - quite expensive though, so far I'm favouring the Domke F-5XB.

For a very inexpensive option the Lowepro Exchange messenger gets pretty decent feedback too although

I'm looking to buy a small holster case for the K5, purely for use when I'm just taking the camera + attached lens out, ideally something not too bulky - I'd appreciate any suggestions

thanks

Simon
Having got a big bag ( Tamrac Evolution 8 ) that holds everything and a small one ( Lowe-pro Nova 140 ) for the K7 + extra lens + flash I've been looking for something similar - a soft cover rather than a case.

I've just bought the Pentax neoprene case designed for the K7.

I think it's only intended to be used with the 18-55 lens (or similar size) and it is a snug fit. However I did try it in the shop with an 18-135 ( potential future purchase ) and it did just fit.
