Which Film Brand
Blimey chaps, how behind the times are you? he he he! Behind the times? I was playing with a pinhole camera I made with a cardboard box, a sheet of tracing paper, a piece of tin foil, and an acer 300dpi scanner, back when digi cams were 1.8 mp and cost $8000.00 (not a great way to waste time, bu...

Anesthesia
JC, it hasn't really answered your question though, has it? I would guess that a quick chill in the fridge would be safer for the insect, as this is a natural thing that would happen overnight. I don't know how long you'd need to keep them in there for. It does get some bad press thoug...

Anesthesia
I have read about the chill method and was actually contemplating it, I mentioned this to my brother (a non photographer) after showing him my most recent attempts to capture the bee's in the back yard, and he was appalled at the thought, his reply was, quote; "they dont live very long, putting...

Anesthesia
Spider, you can tell your brother it does the insect no harm - otherwise I wouldn't do it. The insect will go into a temporary suspended animation/hibernation state. We're talking fridge NOT freezer. Take the insect inside an air-conditioned house and it will stop flying or moving. Take it back o...

Newbie
Welcome too! Hope you find answers to questions, and raise a few yourself - as JC says, we're all friendly here, and everyone knows something about something. :D My first Pentax was an MZ-5N, bought as a backup body for my, er, Chinon CE5  (Nice little camera, did the job etc, good come...

Before I had an SLR I had a fixed focus Fuji 35mm compact. A friend had an Oly SLR and couldn't understand why my pictures were consistently better than his. As he was by Boss as well, I couldn't find an easy way of saying "well I know how to use my camera"

New England
I recently spent a week in Massachusetts - my OH had to be near New Bedford for a couple of days of meetings. We booked the tickets fairly late - his was business class and paid for, my economy which we paid for. As it was August it was expensive! (1000 euros). Now the summer season is over the pric...

It's time for it to go . . .
Thanks Ammonyte, George. Yes I have internet access and I'll still be 'sticking my oar in' on this forum. Internet was a top priority for me because I still have to do some work while I'm there  and I keep in touch with wifey every day for free using Skype. It's taken nearly two years to g...

Scuba Pictures from my Hols.
I thought this is the best section to put them in. Sorry they are not taken with a Pentax. Pics were taken with a Sea & Sea Motor Marine 35mm camera with external stobe, most pics were at f8/11 with TTL, manual pre focus (or guess the distance) The pics were developed at a high street shop ...

K100D review
Hello everyone, The K100D is reviewed in this week's Amateur Photographer magazine (on sale today). One thing in particular that surprised me was mention of a less than bright focusing screen. This is contrary to what I've heard about Pentax DSLRs - has anyone used a K100D yet, & how does the...

Mobile mass storage devices
I acquired a the Vosonic equivalent to the Jobo - again as a reduced cost repair item from Warehouse Express and basically pleased with it :D I discovered that having copied data over to PC and then deleting from the Vosonic, that whilst explorer shows no files remaing on it, that the capacity h...

Black and White: Film or Digital?
Just a thought... You can combine the two technologies and get the best of both worlds by shooting on film for the look, scanning the negs and make digital prints with ease. You also have the advantages of being able to use PS. I dont fancy going back into the darkroom and there were always pro p...

Elegance in Design
Hi John, Very few Zeiss lenses have stiff focus rings, although some do. If the only ones you have examined did have, then you have been unlucky. You must bear in mind when comparing that very few Pentax lenses see pro use, but many of the Zeiss Contax ones do and without regular service, they do...

Where am I?
I wasn't sure for a moment! I had just arrived from my son's website, where the forum is blue, and found myself here, also blue..... However, you will be glad to know I am now orientated again and back into Pentax Mode. :?

Camera insurance
Gwyn, Where have you seen the restriction on carrying electronic keyfobs ? I can't find any reference to it. Most cars, manufactured in the last 10 years or more, have remote locking. If these items are banned from cabin/personal baggage, what happens when you arrive at security check with the...

pushing the hands of the clock back, to move forward.
I find myself once again in a darkroom, with film, old camera (pentax me and canon ae1) and tri-x 400. Why? I've gone back to school. College no less! Two reasons really. While I take pride in being self taught, there' always been that lingering doubt that comes from learning everything you kn...
