Digital cameras as home electronics
I hope they do. It would be a great tribute o both them and that fantastic old camera the K1000. I do worry at the number of new models and the pace of introduction of ever new and supposedly better models. Not just for Pentax but all other manufacturers. I also worry about the digital lenses ...

Digital cameras as home electronics
I think the Pentax production line has been quite clever, after all the current models are all very similar and in one sense the production run of them has been quite a long one. I am only referring here to the DSLRs. I have several lenses from the Vietnam factories now, and in terms of performan...

Here's a professional photographer.
George, just checking did you link us up to the correct web page? To be honest I am surprised it is taken with a 2mp p&s looks more like a 0.6mp phone camera. If it had been taken on a plate camera you would see the sweat on the guys face or the individual hairs on the bull. Not to sound ...

Here's a professional photographer.
Hi all, As a confirmed (and proven with my pictures here  ) amateur with no formal teaching, I thought I'd add my tuppenny worth. :) I can see where the artistic influences can be seen in the images, although I too find bullfighting abhorent. They are a colourful, and thoughtfully ...

inexpensive location lighting
Hi Don, I don't think you'll get it to work even with d cells. The problem is, and it only occured to me a few minutes ago, is that you're using a flourescent lamp. Although it will run at low power, it needs a bigger start up voltage initially, to get it going. This is almost certainly why th...

inexpensive location lighting
. . . a soldering iron, and some wood, metal, sticky back plastic, and a battery holder, and you'll be done in an evening, with your own custom lighting setup. If you can some egg boxes and an old fairy washing up liquid bottle but not the soldering iron you'll qualify for a blue peter badge! :D ...

Camera Clubs
Jusr read the messages re Friday night Club meetings- well, the Brentwood Club had Tuesday meetings forty years ago, in a Toc H nissan hut then it had to be pulled down, then met in a pub until it was found members were not coming back into the meeting after the interval! Then the committee were off...

Adobe buys Pixmantec
I always smile when I see the David people using the terms "take over" and "swallowed up" when a large company buys a smaller company. Don't forget to consider that it rarely happens in reverse so it is not that unusual when Goliath buys the small. Most small start-ups dream of...

A biased forum
did you hear the story about the ass that fell into a hole in the ground? a donkey falls into an old well. he's scared so he starts braying loudly. the farmer hears him and comes to see. the farmer realizes he can't get the donkey out and rembers he'd been ordered to fill in that well so is af...

actaully the father of one of our brides showed me his linux box. it's a killer system built totally of off the shelf components, with redhat....he gave up on ms due to viruses and spyware maladies (that can't be good for anybodies business except MS/pc technitions) and he swears he'll never go bac...

Ideas for new pentax models..
here' a tip that won't cost a penny and may solve your problem: hand anybody a tube, or camera, or scope and ask them to look thru it, and you'll notice the human instinct is to close one eye and hold the object up to the other eye to look. train your self to hold your camera up to one eye, while ...

Ideas for new pentax models..
I've often thought that, when faced with a macro shot, bracketed focussing would be useful. It ought to be simple enough to instruct the modern 'intelligent' camera where you want the forward and rear focus points to be and how many 'slices' you want, then it can do the maths and take 3, 4, or 5 sho...

Pentax shift lens
Wise advice indeed. In this case it sounds as if the seller wasn't trying to deceive as they let you back out, which probably shows that writing a proper description can be full of pitfalls as well as reading it wrongly. The classic is, of course, "Dog for sale, eats anything, loves children...

I find useful for watermarking. I've been experimenting with it and JAlbum a little The watermark can take many forms and be placed anywhere on the page. It'll also take .PSD files in and churn out watermarked 'JPG's optionally resized and resampled. Its available in both mac & windows ve...
