Description
"an ordinary object, such as a piece of driftwood, a stone, or a manufactured article, that is treated as an object of art by one who finds it aesthetically pleasing"

I am looking for a shot that moves the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Naturally, the competion entries are limited to images produced with Pentax or Samsung equipment.

An interesting set of images, and one that I have found quite difficult to evaluate. So, to go back to the initial criteria, “I am looking for a shot that moves the ordinary into the extraordinary”.
I should also say that to my way of thinking, whilst a strong image will transcend technical issues, it seems that more often than not, the best images are usually technically proficient too.

State of Decay by John Riley
A sharp, well lit image, and certainly ‘as found’ - but aesthetically pleasing? I am not sure! It does however elevate the ordinary.

Rusty Agricultural Thingy by DrOrloff
My guess would be some sort of harrow. Well suited to the B&W treatment, but, in this case, because we can only see a part of it, the item is perhaps not sufficiently celebrated.

Flint by Coker
A self contained item that, by virtue of its isolation is lifted out of the ordinary, and the more I look at it, the more I like its form. However, there is something rather odd going on at the edges of the flint which is a little distracting.

Helmets, Columbo 05 by Dr. Mhuni
A simple but effective composition that certainly takes the common bone dome to another level, but I think the blue one alone may have sufficed. Sumptous colour in the background!

Post by bforbes
A simple but very effective graphic composition, set off by the contrasting colours.

Tokenmux Card by GlynM
This is an unusual subject, well photographed. My only reservation is that the overall gold finish has allowed some of the original detail to be lost.

Quelques Boites by rustytheclown
An interesting collection of very photogenic boites, for sure. I like the complimentary colour tones , but I feel the plates to the bottom right and left are rather distracting.

The Biggest Cat in the World by ArsenAl
I think you have chosen a difficult subject here, in that it is already an iconic design and therefore one that would be difficult to elevate further. A good shot all the same.

Woodmonster Drifting About by Darlene
Looks rather like an angry pike! The effect is a little lost by the object to the left and the bottom of the shed. A little more DoF would have let us see more of the beast!

Still Life with Skull by AxelLuther
An interesting picture, and I particularly like the tone of the white bones, but it could have had more impact if perhaps just the skull had been used, and separated to some extent from the surroundings.

Shell by aliengrove
Technically, a well executed shot, but the evident detail on the shell might have benefited from a closer shot.

Recycled Bits by in5omniak
You have got the technical side sorted, so the focus is on the swarf, and the blue strip. I like it.

Neighbourhood Watch by Pentaxophile
I like the humour in this one, and the composition is spot on.

Gifts of Art from the Sea by JudithAnne
An interesting collection of items, sharp focus and well lit, but I feel that it does lack a little overall cohesion.

Sheet Piling by Hyram
A lovely shot with great texture and colour. Most importantly, it makes the mundane special.

Bejewelled by i-berg
Another iconic car badge, but the cobwebs and lighting have lifted it to another level. I like the fact that this really is ‘as found’, and celebrated.

Ages of Rock by TOZZA27
Carefully selected pebbles, given a new context by their insertion in the vase. Only problem I have are the slightly distracting vertical lines above the glass, and reflections from the glass itself.

Birmingham Eye by beebee
A good shot, well captured.

The winners:
1 Bejewelled by i-berg
2 Post by bforbes
3 Sheet Piling by Hyram

Commended: Recycled Bits by in5omniak
