Weekly #881 - Black & White Competition

Title Weekly #881 - Black & White
Judge BraydenBise
Closing Date 25/08/2024
Description
I've chosen an open black and white theme since I have loved seeing and capturing life with out color since the very beginning of my photography adventures. Okay, I won't lie, I'm obsessed with it.

The subject is open, just no color.

As always, Pentax and Pentax clones.

Best of luck to everyone

Perhaps a stupid question - but is it possible to set up a notification that triggers when the winner of a competition has been announced?

It's a good thought, I'll pass the question on so we can see what can be done.

Thanks for the suggestion Kasper, I'll get a couple of solutions in place, firstly pm/email all entrants when the winner is selected, also get the comments notifications option working on these competition pages too.

Cheers,

Rick

Thanks Rick!

Also, our judge has almost finished his judging, so tonight should see the completions of his deliberations.

I am so sorry this took that long to get going and judge. It has been a super busy time for me. Barrel clubs season ends next week and the board (including myself) has been in full swing preparing for the next board to come. Of course my work doesn't end since I was nominated as President last night. Without further ado...

"Light on the tree trunk" by Noelcmn
The lighting you captured here is wonderful, I love it.

"Waiting" by Flan
I love your entity Flan, so many details. Architecture is a fun one to work with in B&W in my opinion.

"Mount Everest from Base Camp 3" by rbuckell
Wow, stunning capture! I love how the space fills your image, the mountains take up a similar amount of space as the sky and clouds if that makes sense. Very well done.

"Chrome Roses on August 18th" by kasperbergholt
Now this is an interesting one. I am a bit biased to flowers shot in B&W as I feel a lot is lost in the transition from color to B&W unless there is a lot of detail. However you did well. I like how your depth of field pulls my attention towards the large rose vs the background.

"Great Western Arcade" by Simonmac
I love street photography but have never quite gotten into it. This is a beautiful image. I really love how my eye is drawn to the central part of the photograph and yet there still many details to view across the whole photograph. Very well done.

"Ebrington" by johnriley
Interesting, I did not know that model was a K20D. Never the less wonderful capture. I feel nostalgic looking at it, like I might find in an an old book about somewhere.

"Alice" by michaelblue
Wow, that detail is incredible and the black background as well!! Well captured.

"Heaven and Earth" by Nigelk
You caught my eye with this one. The mystery captured here. Absolutely incredible shot in my opinion.

"Windmill top" by RayW
I love a good film entry. Well done.

"ANGELS'' by ArsenAI
Wow, incredible silhouette. I love the details even captured in the background. Very well captured!

"Gower Seascape" by dewsburya
Wonderful capture!

"Summer" by sueriley
I do believe I see a (Bold Monochrome Filter) here from a camera I am very familiar with. I love it and I can defiantly feel summer vibes from looking off into your photograph.

"£50 in 50pence coins" by davidwozhere
Excellent capture! The lighting is stunning with exceptional detail.

"Lambs" by MHOL190246

Our WINNER is "Heaven and Earth" by Nigelk

Congrats to Nigelk, a quirky worthy winner imho, and well done to the other podiums
Well done to host BraydenBise, who came good in the end with comments and critique under pressure from other commitments.
We all have been there at some point

Nigel - you always pull something original out of the changing bag - well done! And also to Sue and ArsenAI. I can also empathize with our judge for being entangled in multiple responsibilities. "Give a busy person a job", as they say.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
