Weekly #749 My Happy Place Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 09/01/2022
Judge: RPLSF

I debated whether or not to call this comp. "Cabin Fever". As winter has settled over most of the northern hemisphere, along with 'other' reasons to stay INDOORS, I would like to see pictures from home. This can include pictures depicting your hobbies, or favourite reading nook. The fur buddy that keeps you company or simply a still life of favourite things. The only rule is the picture must be taken indoors (include a what/why and where, if you feel so inclined). So get a smile on and show me your Happy Place.
Regular guidelines apply. ie. Pentax and clones only...
Cheers and happy New Year!!!!

First, Happy New Year to all. And thank you to all the photographers who took time to take part in the competition this week. I really enjoyed the opportunity to adjudicate some lovely work, so again, much appreciated. Without further ado...

RayW: On the Air - this photo captures the topic precisely and definitely brought a smile to my face. I recently have started dabbling in self-portraiture and have found it quite the challenge, so kudos. Your lighting is wonderful and the background, although busy, adds to the theme. Well executed photo.

crobncarol: Me and my shadow - I can see Dusty is definitely the king of the castle! Unfortunately in this photograph the eyes are blown out quite brightly and it detracts from the subject of your photo. The whole photo is also rather soft and a bit blurry. Cats can be tricky.

Perspicador: On the inside looking out - a lovely still life of orchids, I believe. The Bokeh in this picture is quite nice. I do find however the reflection of the flowers in the glass distracting. Let's hope we can soon all the outside looking in.

Horst: Lousy weather outside, very cozy inside - a lovely crisp photo, from the curtains to the window panes and the raindrops besides. Well executed and on topic.

Johnwnjr: Cat in Basket- not sure how this photo is on topic. It is a clean picture, although the basket is off center and I find the background distracting with the different colors and lines. A cute little toy for sure.

PRYorkshire: My Birdwatching and Archers Listening Corner - a clean, on topic photo, of a place I would certainly love to sit. The book on the arm of the chair and placement of the binoculars keeps with the theme and displays it's intent. A well taken shot.

Noelcmn: Couch Potato - Another well composed self portrait. Lighting and focus all in the right places. And spot on topic. The colour of the blankets in the background adds to the comfort portrayed in this shot.

drofmit: Music to the left... - Definitely your happy space, makes me happy just seeing it. There is a lot going on in this capture. A little tidying or arranging perhaps would have made a better photo. Especially the floor clutter... When a person looks at this picture there is no focal point and the eyes don't quite know where to rest. Again though spot on point.

First RayW: On the Air
Second: Noelcmn: Couch Potato
Third: Horst: Lousy weather..

HC. PRYorkshire: My Birdwatching and Archers Listening Corner

Congratulations Ray and the other podia….
RPLSF…. Me tidy? Me arrange? You jest!
I am and always have been, a WYSIWYG photographer….. everything in that picture is me….
And the floor clutter? I’ve run out of shelf space…. that’s my filing system!! Mwahahahahaha!!!
Never be afraid to talk about your techniques...

the same camera, lens and scene...

A wonderful word of advice dear Ray, write your adjudication on each photo as they are entered. That way, when the contest is over, you just have to Copy and paste. It is not overwhelming when done this way. I also loved the topic you chose.

Congrats on a very fine win! Well deserved!
