Weekly #599 - VILLAGES Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 13/01/2019
Judge: vic cross

Village/Villages. Old or New. e.g I live on a housing estate 70/80 yrs old called Ise Village. Named after the brook which runs through it. There are villages all over the world so if you've been anywhere. I mean ANYWHERE and can show anything. e.g. village life. Cote du Rhone Villages. Anything with village in mind. I'm not much good at the technical assessment but I like what I like and will judge accordingly. SO GIVE IT SOME WOW FACTOR. also it's my 80th. birthday on Thursday 10th. so I will be judging with an old head and old eyes. Good luck to one and all. Happy New Year.
CHEERS Vic.

Well here we are at 1.00AM and it is a good turn out.

(1) A Damp Day In Dent Tyronet2000
Damp Moody Dirty. Definitly puts a "dent" in the weather.
Nice and sharp. I like it a lot.

(2) Port isaac Re "Modeled" Johnjm
As per the name it looks like a model. The roof lines take you right to the centre and the red pickup truck.
I like this one too.

(3) Binabeca. Paulb531.
Nice viewpoint and the diagonal leads to the boy. I think this one may have been better in colour for me.

(4) Central Sneem County Kerry. Newbiek50user.
Sorry but this one does nothing for me. It's to cluttered and my eyes don't know where to settle.

(5) Plockton. Noelm.
Nice one. the diagonals leading to the red car. The tree is just a little to prominent for me.

(6) St. Agnes. retsoor.
The balance of the red flowers and the red on the houses is nice. Ilike this one.

(7) Twilight. Nigelk
Nice evening shot across the river. Still some colour in the sky. For me a little cropping off the top, bottom and the right hand side would improve it.

( In the village. johnriley.
Classic shot of Portmeirion. Strong diagonals leading once again to the red house.

(9) Bradford Wharf. DoctorJeff.
Nice view. Once again nice diagonals leading to the "red" boat.

(10) The Henge shop Avebury. EricD1306
Chocolate box cottages. Sharp all the way through back to front.

(11) Hetton-le-Hole. JAK.
A lot of space and not much village but nice and sharp. when blown up you can read the memorial.

(12) Polpero. Perspicador.
I like the "V" formation and it's sharp all the way through back to front.

(13) Adifferent view of Castle Coombe. ken2390
Nice balanc of the houses and trees.

(14)Sparrow Village. Noelcmn.
A lot of sky. this one does not appeal to me.

(15) Le Grande Pressigny Touraine du Sud. Drofmit.
Different view over the roof tops. Like this one a lot.

(16) Raising the maypole. Abe_Normal.
Interesting photo. Shame about the telegraph pole and all the wires.

Well I said it wouldn't be a technical judging Just what I like. 16 entries and quite a few with the same theme. You know how to make it hard for a fella. So here I go.

1st. A damp Day in Dent.
2nd. Port Isaac re "Modeled"
3rd. Here I can't split them so equal 3rd are
St. Agnes and Le Grand Pressigny Turaine du Sud.
As for the rest they were all good in there own way.
I hope everyone is OK with my judging.

Thanks for the third place, Vic... and thanks for the competition.
Congrats too to the winner... Sums Dent up nicely...
Thought we'd have difficulty getting past that one on the way to the podium...
question: "Why is Dent so far from the railway station?"...
Answer: "Because they built the station beside the railway line!"
No apologies for that... it is West Yorkshire Black Humour.
Congrats, also to fellow podia places and everyone else...
Bonne année, bonne santé et meillieur voeux!
And belated happy 80th to Vic!
Never be afraid to talk about your techniques...
