Competition Details
Closing Date: 31/10/2019
Judge: Simonmac

Hello

Shadows add to a photograph. No matter the time of day.
They are prominent at this time of year.
Totally open to interpretation as long as a shadow or two is present.

The usual rules. Take your shot in October. Pentax and accepted clones and EXIF if possible.

Closes midnight on 31st October.

All the best

Mac

Thank you Simonmac for choosing my Shadows photo. I am sure that it was a difficult choice because there were some other excellent images. Well done to all others who took part.

And well done for winning it. That's a nice image.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Thank you very much to those who entered. And please accept my apologies for the delay in posting my comments.

Autumn Leaves by Perspicador
Lovely colours and a great sky. I love this time of year (at least when it isn't raining.....) Sadly there are no discernible shadows albeit some shade underneath the foliage.

Shadows of trees: St Helens, Merseyside UK by newbiek50user
More glorious colour, and shadows. What I love about this is that it is an urban setting but the photographer has recognised and brought out the best of what they saw. Detail aplenty and good exposure to bring out detail in the shadows. Cracker.

Hawker Hunter by cardiffgareth
The tonality is superb. And here I struggled, is it shadow or not? I'll leave that to you all. I decided that I was looking for distinct shadows and that an otherwise fine image fell short on that basis.

Out of the shadows by Nigelk
Full marks for creativity and 'having a go'. This draws you in and then, bang! It is just me but the only thing that slightly rankled is the figure. I pictured the scene without that figure and found it more enticing and mysterious. Good effort.

Shadows Give Way to the Light by JudithAnn
What a lovely, evocative photograph. I love the subject and that splash of light to the right. Could more be made of that? I think, again, that the image has lovely tonality but I draw short on shadows.

Selfie, with chair by Aitch53
Got to love a selfie shadow. In my case it hides all the blemishes! Definite shadows, but I would love to have seen a little more creativity. Those chairs are interesting.....

Pinocchio next door? by JAK
Well spotted! I saw the connection straight away. I think that the K1 is guilty of bringing out too much detail in the shadows here and I would love to have seen them held back. But that's personal taste.

Long Horned Beetle by Noelcmn
I'm off! Seriously though, well seen. It is a wondrous creature. Oh, and you nailed the shadows. I wsn't expecting shadows like that!

I perhaps wasn't explicit enough in defining a shadow so a great effort all round.

The winner, as you all know, is newbiek50user

2nd to Noelcmn

3rd to Nigelk

I have to commend JudithAnn and cardiffgareth for two fine shots that didn't quite meet the brief.

Thank you Simonmac, well done newbie50user, nice winning shot, it would have been my pick also. Well done to all, an interesting variety, shame there were not more entries.
Simon I see what you mean about the figure, I just can't help myself
