Oh dear, well I already have those two - but off brands. A Chinon 50mm F1.7 and a 24mm Miranda Macro.

The LBA is strong in this one... Hell, I'm pondering getting an old Tamron 35-80mm f/2.8, just cause I think it'd be fun to have. Already got a 2x Tamron TC and a mirror lens, so don't need adapters or anything else to get me down to 1:1 @ 160mm with that lens, and it's a good quality one as well from what 'the google' tells me.

Last question - what bout Nikon. Is it the same, as I may have a 3rd contender It all depends on what happens in the last 10 seconds of each auction though.

EDIT: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160420617865&_trksid=p2759.... Battered, but it is a 300mm f2.8

Excellent, another contender for my searches then.

Hey, what about minolta MD mount, does it operate the same way as the FD/K-mount?

All comes down to what kind of glass should I do though. I'm unsure if I want to go for something pricy (i.e. a f1.2 lens) or if I should grab a 7GBP lens with fungus in it for my first shot. My worry is that after I've done it once, I won't be so keen to repeat.

So it seems I'm not alone in this idea I've found a bunch of websites with people doing it, so it can be done. That's quite exciting. Most say it won't cost much other than blood, sweat and tears - yay!

So here's a question for ya'll... I'd love a 50mm f1.2, and I may be able to get a cheapish one. I've also found a cheap 28mm f1.8. The other end of the scale, I may look for a cheapish 300 f2.8 or bigger. What do you think I should start with?

Also, anyone have a good lead for cheap FD glass? Or for that matter, have any that they want to get rid of?

http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/23000297/Images/102/cam7343__1.... shows that the levers may operate in the opposite direction to that of the pentax. Hrm, that was one concern.

EDIT: my bad - never mind the leaver is on the left because the aperture is wide open. Hrm, this could work.

Hrm, well it gives hope. I want to avoid any actual fabrication and leave it up to epoxy and will power, but maybe I'll go forward with this then.

So would anyone know how the shutter is triggered on a canon system / aperture system works on a canon as compared to a pentax system? Surely someone has both types of lenses around and can look at the mechanics on the bottom.

http://www.ganymeta.org/~darren/photo_f1.2_conversion.php would lead me to believe that it's possible as he had to extend his mount. The FD is 42mm, and the EF is 44mm, but he had to extend his mounting device by at least enough to allow for the 45.5mm that exists on a Pentax.

In theory, the optics should work, I'm just more concerned with the mechanics.
