My parents bought me a Brownie Box camera as a young child and I've been involved with amateur photography ever since, developing and printing B & W at school though never had space or enough money to justify doing that as an adult. I only converted to digital photography within the last 5 to 6 years, first with a camcorder. After reading up about cameras on this site and others, I have ordered a K5 with a couple of lenses! I am sure this will provide the feature set sufficient for my needs. I am an out and about photographer, carrying a camera virtually all the time.

Science background at university, worked abroad for a couple of years, then with a voluntary organisation in UK, ran a community project ending up in local government before retiring.
