Pete, having watched a professional woldlife photographer doing his PP you would be astounded by how poor many of his photos seem straight from the camera, but after being through Bibble and PS they are stunning. He using a €4500 Canon and big, expensive glass, but straight from the camera you would go mwah, believe me.
I agree with the others though that the lion photo is over sharpened, and I find the colours a bit dull. My experience of lions is that they are much redder than that, even under the noon day sun in Tanzania. I'll try and find one of my photos and post here.
Just to show this point a tad, this is a very quick edit of an image posted further up in this thread.Pete, having watched a professional woldlife photographer doing his PP you would be astounded by how poor many of his photos seem straight from the camera, but after being through Bibble and PS they are stunning. Keep in mind when I say very quick I mean that I only spent around ten minutes and I am far from a professional sharpener( , or anything of the like.

It lost a fair amount of detail when uploading to web, and this is with the low-res image provided above, I would only gain more detail if it was full size.
Granted I personally think it looks over-sharpened in my edit already, more detail would just worsen the problem.

I believe you, sir, have just commited one of the seven deadly sins of the pentax user forums. ... which is now more on par with the canons, nikons etc...
But in all seriousness, the DL2 is a great camera for a nice step up into the DSLR world, if you're not printing things all that large, or cropping and upsizing it's a fine camera.
That being said, I have a first generation DL and I am currently looking to upgrade.
Yep, it looks great.
Must be a printer issue.

Nice images (even though i don't like herons, got a koi pond see).
There seems to be a lot of blue around the twigs under the heron, or is it just me?
I didn't really notice it until getoutandride pointed it out though so it's not too big a deal. (IMO)
Great shots!
