Hmm, some great choices there... I had initially purchased an old canvas rucksack, but its just too difficult to get to quickly. Im thinking I definitely need a messenger style, as its just easier to grab the camera then throw it back in after shooting.

I never knew you could get the Billingham inserts either, I

was just making them out of foam.

The Billingham bags along with the NG look pretty good, especially if they are worn in. If i can get an old Brady hunting then that would be the way to go. After that I'm kinda drawn to the NG. I've had the crumpler and loved then, but still feel as though they're not that discrete.

Thanks again, ill update on what I get

Have a great day all..

Hi all, hope you all having a great day today

I'm looking for a bit of advice on a new camera bag.
I'm heading to Cambodia for a few years, after that ill be traveling through the rest of Asia.

I'm looking for a messenger style bag that doesn't really look like its going to contain anything valuable, so probably something canvas that I can make look really worn, dirty and dingy.

I need to fit in this a K20D, 200mm prime, 8mm Fish eye, 50mm prime, 16-50mm SDM, elinchrom skyport universal trigger set, 13" macbook, and a few cleaning bits.

I've been looking a the Domke bags and also the National Geographic ones, but as I can see these at a shop I don't really ave an idea of the size.

If any one has any experiences with these, or any recommendations of something else that may suit then I would be gratefully appreciated.

Kind regards

Dan

Thanks guys, I knew you wouldn't let me down

I think ill try out the 50mm end of my lens as per Matts suggestion to start with and get some practice in, this will also allow me to save up a bit more of the folding stuff

The DA 70 looks good as I really want to keep the bulk down as well, I have a reflector and a AF360 and Metz 58 AF-1 (excellent flash, by the way) so will play around with some lighting setups.

I have a bit of time before both of my trips but at least i have a god idea of what I should be looking at now.

Again thanks a bunch guys.

Hi all,

I know this question has been asked many many times, and ive read a lot of reviews on this forum over many days to try and make a decision, but I think I need a little help from some of you more experienced users.

I have a Pentax K20D with 16-50mm lens, I use this lens for club photography and urban exploring and im very very happy with it.

I now want to make the step into portrait photography, but have a very limited buget. I woud love to purchase a Tamron 28-75 but that is really stretching my pocket a bit.

Ive been asked to take some headshots for a friends portfolio and know the 16-50 wont realy cut it due to the distortion.

So I want to take portrait head shots and maybe include shoulders up,
I also want to be able to use the lens when I travel to Thiland and Peru later in the year where I plan to do voulentary work and take photos.

I dont care if the lens is AF or not, im used to using manual focus in the clubs. I really just want clear sharp images that I can publish later on.

As a final question, I hear a lot of talk about sensor size, crop factor and format size, what does all this mean to me? i really want to understand all aspect of my camera and this is an area where I need to more research. I dont expect anyone to completly answer this question, for me, it would be better if someone could point me to a resource where I could do my own research then ask questions if needed.

I really hope ive explained myself, i do tend to ramble a bit, so apologies if I have :-S

Thanks in advance, and hope you all have a great new year.

Hi hefty1,

I find the standard kit lens is just not wide enough at times, especially for group shots etc, and on many occasion ive had to break the group up into smaller groups. This is mainly due to the fact that yo uhave to be fairly close to the subject in a club envioroment.

I would actually be happy with a fixed focal lengh lens, so a zoom is not a priority.

Buget wise, I was thinking about £450 top end.
I was also toying with the idea of the Pentax 10-17mm Fish Eye, about half the price, but fairly specialised. Im pretty sure it would be great for club work though. My only worry about that is I really dont want every pic I take to be with the fish eye.

Hi all,

Im looking for some expert advice for my next purchase. I Mainly only really do club photography, dark in some places, strobes and lights in other places, difficult to use auto focus at times with smoke machines etc, you kinda get the jist.... I have the K10D with Kit lens and AF360 Flash... ive finally decided that its time to upgrade my lens. I really need a wideangle lens.

After searching the internet for review after review, well im just kinda lost now :-S

A friend reccomended the PENTAX smc DA * 16-50mm F2.8, but to be honest im just not sure what to go for now.

I just need a robust, fast, sharp, quick focusing, wideangle lens.
Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for the advice on the AF Matt, thats totally sorted that problem, im getting no probs with AF in low light now.

I decided to get a wireless radio transmitter with a vivitar 2700 Auto Flash. Ill be working in M mode on the camera and will be holding the flash and using a diffuser.

I dont want the flash to fill the room only light up my subject. Im also going to be using a long shutter speed, so that light from the bar, club forms trails in the picture, but doesn't kill the overall effect of the shot. To achieve this I think im going to have to use a lowish ISO setting as again I only want the subject to be sharp

Ill let you know how I get on, thanks for the pointers everyone
The fun bit is the trial and error

Hi all,

I really need a bit of expert advice here.
I have K10D with kit lens, and ive started doing a lot of club photography, very low light and lots of movement.

I cant really afford a new lens right now so ive been looking at using off camera flash with a wireless transmitter. Now i dont know a lot about this so this is where hopefully someone can help me out.

I want my subjects to be clear but also want to capture movement of light and the surroundings in the club / bar. Im pretty much thinking that if I use an external flash to light my subject, but with a slow shutter speed to capture the movement of the ambient light this may resolve my initial problem. I think auto fucus will still be an issue and may have to resort to manual fucus (any help here appreciated as well as some of the areas I work in are just too dark and even manual fucus can be difficult).

Ive been looking at the cheap remote flash triggers on ebay (im not too bothered if they screw up now and again as i dont think my pics can get any worse than they are right now. I have no idea of what cheap flash to get though. Sad to say im on a bit of a buget here.

Also any advice or reference material that I could be pointed to to assist with my initial setup, just so I have a starting point to play with. Im currently researching youtube for this as well, I just really need to progress a bit further as its driving me insane lol...

Thanks in advance,

TerminalFunk!
