Not only does the Namaqualand gets covered with colorfull carpets of wildflowers after the winter (see my other thread), the same happens in the West Coast National Parc in South Africa:

Thank you all for the comments.

It is true, these flowers are also frequently used here in parcs around Lake Geneva, but these carpets of wildflowers do have a different impact.

Want a few more photos of that region?

Thank you all for the comments.

Graham: I did not use any filter on these photos. I liked the use of the pol filter especially back when I used films, but now, I find the effect of the pol filter too hard. As to get the exposure right, I always quickly checked the histogram after taking a shot and made the needed corrections when needed.

Tim: It was indeed a perfect day, without any clouds.

I am addicted to southern Africa. A few years ago, I took a tour from Cape Town to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. There is a region called Namaqualand in the northern cape province. I was said that if the winter brings enough rain, the desert will turn into carpets of wildflowers as soon as it gets a bit warmer. I took my chance and planned the tour in the end of August.

I did hope to see the flowers, I expected flowers, but I did not expect so many flowers. I have to say that I was a bit lost, having no clue how to photograph so many flowers...

So, carpets of wildflowers

I do start my contribution on this forum with a series of winter landscapes taken a few weeks ago on the Gemmipass. The Gemmipass is a pass at around 2200m above sea level separating Leukerbad from Kandersteg in Switzerland.

Here is a selection of photos I took on a 12km walk over the Gemmipass, from the cable car coming from Leukerbad, to the cable car going down to Kandersteg:

I took all the photos with K-7 and DA14.
