Thanks for your advice Stefan, it has really helped me. I tend to use my camera while mountaineering, I have always used manual focus and have never had an autofocus lens. Your suggestion of a FA77mm is good and I think I will look to get one.

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this lens? I am not too worried about the lack of weather sealing or no autofocus. Any help and guidance is appreciated. How does it compare to the Pentax 50mm f1.4 versions?
best wishes
Mike

Hi, I have a Pentax K7 which I use mainly when mountaineering, which I love. Am thinking of buying a PENTAX-A 24-50mm f4 Zoom Lens. Does anyone have any views (positive or negative) about this lens?
best wishes
Mike

Welcome, I have just joined myself and it is a very friendly user group.

Once I have saved up enough (will take some time) my next lens could be a Pentax 77mm limited edition. Although have also been looking a Pentax SMC A 50mm f1.7.

Thanks, the forum is really friendly.

I am a real beginner in photography, although I have had a 35mm camera for many years virtually all my photos have been taken while mountaineering. Usually on a mountain I am too tired and pre-occupied to think about what I am doing, so it has mainly been point-and-shoot (although the camera has been used in manual mode with manual focusing)!

One of the things I have discovered with digital photography, is that I can take many more images than with 35mm slide and can instantly view the results. Still to fully understand the histogram display.

Thinking of the limited edition lenses, they seem world class, but also allow manual as well as autofocus, plus they are small and compact. I have found that on a mountain sometimes it is really useful to be able to manual focus. I am thinking of buying a Pentax SMC A 50mm f1.7, this gives me time to save up for a limited edition lens! Yet lets me benefit from a having a great prime lens.

I will post some of images on the user group and learn to take better photos through your comments.

Very happy to be part of the Pentax forum.

Got my first dSLR, a Pentax K7 with twin lens kit from SRS Microsystems, and am loving it. Still got a lot to learn. It is a great camera, and the more I use it the better I feel about it. Very different from taking pictures on 35mm slide film.

Already starting to think about my next lens! Have spotted the limited edition lenses (they look world class lenses!). Why are they much cheaper in the USA than in the UK?

Have also spotted the Voigtlander SLII 58/1.4 Nokton and the Zeiss T* ZF 50mm f/1.4. Does any one have any experiences with these lenses?
