I managed to get it working reasonably well with a sigma 150-500 but patience is required...as I suspect it will be when I put my asking price up.....including postage...... £65

I don't wish to sound rude (but probably will ...again) please be patient. These are great cameras, I agree that for some purposes straight out of the box they aren't easy but practice and more practice will help you get the best out of the camera
Does the K5 have a User setting on the top dial? You set it up with your most used/favourite settings and then just set this on the top dial. It doesn't matter if you then use the camera differently so long as you don't reset the User setting
