When it comes to analyzing the cost of living in Spain, we see that the country is geographically divided into two: the north and the south.
According to the
Cost of Living website, the most expensive Spanish cities to live in are:
Vitoria, San Sebastián, Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao and Marbella; While at the bottom of the list we find: Salamanca, Albacete, Badajoz, Huelva, Seville and Cádiz.
This geographical division is equally applicable when we analyze the average income of Spanish households, since, if the average is situated at 24,368 euros per year, San Sebastián is at the top with 30,550 euros and Córdoba closes the list with 19,685 euros.
When buying a home, Barcelona is the most expensive city followed by San Sebastián and Madrid; while the cheapest homes are located in Cáceres, Badajoz and Ciudad Real.
Regarding the price of rents, the positions move little, leading the list with the most expensive rents Barcelona, Madrid and San Sebastián, and ending it with Lugo, Orense and Cáceres.
If we take the statistics from the Cost of Living website, the average cost of living in Spain would be 818 euros per month. Compared to the 920 euros on average of the rest of the European countries analyzed, we can say that Spain is one of the cheapest countries in Europe to live in. In fact, it is 20.28% cheaper than living in Germany and 23.86% cheaper than residing in the United Kingdom. Outside of Europe, if we compare the cost of living in Spain with the United States, this would be 17.06% cheaper.
