Cheers for your help Matt,

I have been into Park cameras (bit of a trip tho!) but i always find that testing in a shop is so different to actually being out there for "real" shooting.

Out of interest wheres Howletts??

Am i right in thinking the AF motor for pentax kit is in the body and not the lenses??

In which case, can anyone help me out:

I'm considering the istD body and some Sigma EX lenses (100-300 in particular) but am worried that the AF wont be able to keep up with the need for quick focus or tracking when shooting birds etc.

Can anyone set my mind at ease, or am i best going with (shock horror) a body like the Nikon D70 and using the HSM EX sigma range instead with high speed motors in the lense??

OK, Thanks George.

I did some calcs the other day from prices i found for places in the US, and after the 4.2% Import tax, and 17.5% VAT it worked out at £794 for the body only ist*D - which is a pretty big saving over the £1099 in the UK.

I'm not sure if its worth the hassle tho, and i hope that the price comes down pretty soon, especially with the Nikon D70 being released and rumors of a Cannon 300D slight price drop - makes them both approx £700-£800!

George - Do you have any good links for US shops with decent prices to buy the kit from?

Regards, Slime101

One thing though - wont these news Digital specific lenses have a bit of a problem if Pentax then produce a "full frame 35mm" digital camera?

I'm new to pentax kit and am looking to buy a *istD SLR, however in looking for suitable lenses i seem to come across many many different mounts and "systems"

645, 67, ES, PAF, PFA, PK and PKA - thats the list from the Jessops website.

I really dont know what ones are modern and what ones are old, and also what is suitable for the *istD.

Any help and advice would be greatfully recieved

Jessops are ok.....but they dont stock the *istD around here!

Also they will have to price match a fair bit i should imagine and as i am looking at possibly 2 bodies and a grands worth of lenses and some accessories i am hoping to get a very good deal...its gonna be over £3K spend

hmm, thanks for the link, i will give it a go.

Does anyone (malcomk?) know of another method of testing for them. I would really like to test the camera before i leave the shop and can easily take my laptop and microdrive & adaptor to run any tests i can there and then
