In testing last night I was using the evening light. Today, in the sun, I was able to get the wireless to work holding the remote flash in one hand, camera in the other.

I did not try the same experiments as yesterday. Had the flash been further away, following Matt's comments, perhaps the range would be reduced.

I am left wondering why the remote flash worked when it was behind the camera. It would have nor received direct light from the on board flash there.

In one shot I covered the small round sensor with my finger. The flash still fired. However when the whole red base of the flash was covered with my hand it did not fire....

It also did not fire with the flash at 4m 'side on' to the camera - I would have thought there was no shielding effect there.

I'm finding this all very inconsistent & would like to understand more....

Unfortunately I sold my leads on eBay 3 months ago thinking I would never need them.

I've often used my 360fgz off camera hand held but I've just been testing out the wireless range, 2 360FGZs, one on camera, one off. High speed sync mode at 500th second and f5.6 and 800asa. The one on camera in control mode.....

With the remote flash 3m from the camera pointing at the subject 4 m from the camera it would not fire.

With the remote flash 5m from the camera pointing at the subject 4 m from the camera (ie behind the subject pointing at the camera) it would fire.

With the remote flash 1m above and behind the camera pointing at the subject 4m from the camera it would fire.

I replicated the results taking the 360FGZ off the camera and using the built in flash as controller. I had to reduce shutter speed to 180th of course.

I wonder if anyone can explain what's going on?

Thanks - tested and it works just as you suggest. 2 external flashes are needed for high speed wireless flash.

I have K10d set up for wireless flash with flash mode set to wireless. I have AF-360FGZ set to wireless slave - high speed flash. Problem is that in this combination I cannot push the shutter speed over 180th second using Tv or Av.

Is high speed sync possible wirelesly?

Are things different if I have another AF-360FGZ on the camera as controller?

In fact I muddled through and it now works. I set the flash setting to 'red eye reduction'!!!!! on the camera - in cycling through flash settings, the normal flash symbol just never shows up as an option.

I had tried both WeinSafe on hotshoe and regular sync socket - latter shold be safe with any lights should it not? Anyway mine are newish Bowen Eclipses.

I was over the moon to discover the x-sync socket on the *istD that I have just bought but how exactly do I get it to work?

Connecting with a lead and setting camera mode to manual and leaving the on-board flash down nothing happens. If I pop up the flash then the studio lighting works but this is probably the pre-flash on the on board flash setting it off.

I cannot find this covered anywhere in the manual so if anyone has practical experience then I'd love to hear!

Lucky me, I now have two 360FGZs - but one has been in for repair and I do not want that to happen again.

So, for the slave flash in a two flash wireless combo, I have at the moment one way of mounting it ie on a shoe mount which I can screw onto a standard tripod head. There is no hot shoe contact but the plate of the mount is metal.

This works well with my other Pentax flash guns - eg AF400FTZ, AF330FTZ but I am nervous about using it with the 360FGZ.

Any suggestions or experiences on how to mount off camera very welcome.

Just to clarify - it absolutely is not a synch cord 5P or anything to do with 35mm or DSLR photography - I know (because as mentioned in the original posting) I have one!!!

Are there different leads for medium format Pentax? (But that means different flashguns.....)

It strikes me that without a positive ID from this forum then perhaps it's nothing to do with Pentax photo equipment at all? How about Pentax CCTV - or endoscopy?

I just bought it on eBay alongside a 'real' Pentax 5P lead - this looks the same but is a bit bigger and does not fit the SLRs and flashes that many in the group will be familiar with.....
