So - if I have it right I'm probably better getting a DA, but D-FA and FAJ wouldn't be too bad on the K10D.
Pentax could do with putting up a lens history and development page, with dates. Or maybe they have one and I've just not looked hard enough.
Thanks so much to all three of you.

John - Yes I went up there OK and I've come back with a bunch of shots which I've not yet downloaded (but which I am as sure as always that I will have an absolute gem in there which will make my fortune).
That's one heck of a BIG 4-cylinder steam driven generator they have in the engine house. I've never seen anything like it!

I'll check out the Pentax Club, that article should be most useful.
I'm heading up into Lancs today to have a peep at the mining museum at Astley Green. It looks pretty clear and sunny over there.
Best wishes

Mattmatic gives somes useful info on a thread below, but the plethora of letters ED AL IF SMC DA FA and FAJ leave me feeling that I'm eating Alphabet Soup rather than choosing lenses.
Pentax (on their website) say that they are developing certain 'DA' lenses for next year, but what's the best group of initials to go for at present, please? Also what initials do Sigma and Tamron throw into the discussion with their products? What initials should I avoid?
It's a minefield!
Does anyone know, please.

"Hi I'm hoping to compliment (after reading other threads I thought I better pick my words carefully!) my Pentax MZ-50 with a K10D"
The easiest way is to put both of them on a table, and tell them how good they are. Be sincere - they may be sensitive little fellows.

Just kidding - I couldn't resist posting this after you mentioned picking your words carefully! Hope you don't mind.

Never, never phone up unless the matter you wish to discuss is relatively trivial.
Write and keep copies of your letters. Send them by recorded delivery if you can. BE BRIEF! Only put material facts in the letter, no emotional stuff. If you write more than one page your letter is much too long.
If the company rings you, ask them to confirm what they have said by letter - and don't take 'no' for an answer on that point.
Keep all your letter copies - yours and theirs. This way you have something to give your solicitor if it comes to that.
I hope it all works out for you in the end.

Now that I'm getting a little more used to things I will check out the 2nd-hand market too.
Thanks, Matt.
