An update to this thread I have just got back from meeting cabstar from here after he offered to swop his recently aquired k30 for the lens. Unfortunately he informed me that there is some fungus inside the lens. I can't apologise to cabstar enough I honestly didn't know it was there.

What causes the fungus and how can it be prevented?

I'm looking at paying around £400-500 on a DSLR setup the problem is that the lens hasn't been used for quite a while as I have been concentrating on family portraits etc what with having two young kids and as Algernon has stated I could always pick up a DA*300mm in the future with the money I save on film and processing. I thought about it a lot last night and the Lens will be going up for sale just need to decide where I'm going to advertise it and get some better quality pictures of it.

Thanks for everyones opinions I will have a think about it. The only problem is to upgrade my camera I need to sell the lens to release some funds.

Thanks for your replies. I probably will regret selling it but it is the only way to buy my first DSLR as my two kids use my spare cash. I would like a DSLR because the film is getting quite pricey for a novice like me.
