Has anyone come across a thick band on images? I did a studio shoot yesterday, and a small number have got a thick band on them. The camea has only recently come back from repair (sensor)

Thoughts?link

With the K-7, possibly the most advanced feature set in an APS-C DSLR, now announced? Do we think that Jessops are now kicking themselves with their recent announcement about Pentex being "not advanced enough" ?

No? thought not!

More fool them I say.

I am still under the impression that Pentax dropped Jessops, rather then the other way around, with Jessops making a poor excuse. And what do Pentax do? bring something out to prove them wrong!

Roll on SRS, Mathers, WEX, jacobs, LCE, et al, for knowing a good camera when they see one.

I have to admit I like the look of the K-7.

Pentax have sorted the niggles of my K20D, whereby bringing to the market a camera which will rival the D300, and better the EOS50D.
Although it does'nt have the 51 point AF of the D300 (what has?) it certainly has plenty of features to knock the spots off the opposition.

Now for the bit which has divided opinion, the movie mode......

Initially I was very sceptic about video in a DSLR, as their prime function is for still photography. And yet......
Recently I was tasked with doing some videos for our company executive roadshow, now I could have used my Canon DV8 camcorder, but to transfer the data, it needs firewire. Now although my desktop has firewire, my laptop does not, yet I needed the laptop for portability and instant transfer whilst I was in our head office in London. Also, the Laptop had my video editing software on it (pinnacle in case you were wondering), so my only option was to use my Fujifilm S6500fd as the video camera instead, with transfer by USB. Now, although the results went down very well with the powers that be, the limitations of the fuji came to light, such as excessive focus hunting at the start of each filming (I got around that) and reduced IQ, not least with the lack of ability to set the DOF.
Therefore, If I had a K-7 with the very fine pentax optics to produce good video, then for future videos (I am sure that I will end up doing more..... ) then it can only be a good addition, albeit a not often used addition.

So to sum up, initially a sceptic, but with hindsight a probable bonus.

I have the cokin P series filter system, and for all my lenses they are fine (apart from my sigma 10-20 which I get vignetting wide open, the Z series would be needed)
You can get a holder ring in any size to fit any lens. Although you can't fit the lens hood on, you can get cokin hoods to attach to the holder.

Worth a look at and they are cheaper than the mighty Lee's yet not much worse.

I have the *istDs, K10D and K20D. I have not done the poll as it will only allow me choose one

I still use all three, if I get the K-7 then I will use all four! lol

So apparently the first USA retailer has it for preorder on their website at $1200 body only .. whats the betting on UK price?
£1100 my bet.
The US Price converts to about £862 with p&p. I was told on holiday that the K200D had made Pentax's "cool" with Canon users. I know that they are after video, so do you think they will be imprest with the K-7?

Jeanette
I am sure it will, Live view and video with contrast AF? and a spec to beat the 50D, heres hoping........
I will let you know what my Canon friends think

Excellent spec.

Faster FPS (5.2) - Check
New faster shutter - Check
77 point metering - check
better AF - check
Magnesium body - Check
better low light AF - Check (possibly)
3 inch screen - check
same excellent sensor without going for increased pixel count - check
same weathersealing - check
dramatically improved live view - Check
100% viewfinder - Check

shame its not 51 point AF nor does it have a screen cover, but I bet it will give the APS-C benchmark (the D300) a SERIOUS run for its money. Canon with the 50D? forget it!

I will wait until I know the price.

Looks like that Pentax might be onto a winner here. Takes an already excellent K20D and sorts out all the niggles we have with it in one fell swoop.

Can't wait until I get my hands on one in the shop to see.
