These 'sales assistants' are often only filling in time to get a basic wage.
If they were knowledgable then that means they command higher wages and employers often are unable to afford higher wages.
If these assistants are in doubt they should always ask the senior sales person for advise.
I think product knowledge is the base of every sales position. I agree with ChrisA's comment about shelf stacking, but Kingsley's Photographic is a dedicated photographic retailer and not a department store which stocks 1000s of products.

You do sound quite upset and unfortunately it's not ususual for shop assistants to be relatively unaware of the accessories for the cameras they sell.
You did have the advantage of already having researched the matter and I suppose that sales for this item are pretty few and far between so it's not all that surprising in one way that they didn't have the knowledge.
Camera Dealers have all sorts of people working there. Some are very knowledgable enthusiasts and skilled photographers. Some are just there to fill the time between pay days. It's the latter that let dealers down and hopefully they move on quite quickly.
I work in sales, and I believe that every customer no matter if they only buy something worth £0.01p or £1000 should be given equal sound advice and treated the same way.

I've just experienced something that I'm sure all pentaxians wouldn't want to experience. I went to Kingsley Photographic the other day to ask for the Pentax viewfinder magnifier. When I ask the sales person he looked down on me and thought that I must be some stupid person, and gave me a stupid look. Then I told him the accesories code that I found out from Pentax's website, and when he was about to double check what I was talking about he didn't even know what Pentax's web address is. He only stocks NIKON, CANON, PENTAX, some minolta and a couple of accesories and that's probably not more than 10 websites. Or, has he heard of bookmarking pages?
Kingsley Photographic as a pentax distributor should know about the products that they are selling don't you guys think so? And then another sales person showed me a Hoodman angle viewfinder and fitted it onto my K10D with some force (I was quite angry at this point, but I didn't show it) and I found out that he put on a canon fit viewfinder, and he told me to try it on, which obviously doesn't.
And when they finally understood what I was talking about from looking through Pentax K20D's brochure, he then acted as if he knows it and re-read it to me. I don't mean to bragg but although I am foreign I might know and speak more languages than he does. In short, I'm not stupid, otherwise the home office and many thousand legal british citizen would deport me for not being a benefit to the country's economy.
I'm sorry guys if this sounds like I was being mad. I am, but at them not at my pentaxians. So just be warned if you do have to check something out at Kingsley's make sure you know what you are looking for before they push you with some product that doesn't even fit your camera for the sake of hitting sales target.
Has any of you experienced anything like this??

Thank you for the advice I'll certainly look at the portrait idea a bit further. It might be viable. I enjoy taking candid shots and portraits. I have put one candid shot sample up in the forum's gallery section. I'll put up some example of my portrait shots for you guys to comment on so that I can get better at it.
Tax wise, I'm not too worried as I'm studying towards a fully qualified accountant I'm very aware of the tax situation in the UK (I don't mean to be arrogant by the way).
one more thing I don't know whether it is appropriate to ask this in this part of the forum or not. How do I trigger manual flash? (

I'll try out the reframing method today.
I'll be out in Hyde Park to take some pictures. I'll definately put them up for comments. I'm learning more in 1 day in this forum than reading books.
Thanks a lot, really appreciated it.

Being a full time student living and supporting myself on my own isn't easy with just one 20Hr Job. So I was thinking whether I could get some extra money from selling photographs.
Photography for me is a tool for getting rid of my depression in studying accountancy. But now I think I need to use it to make me some additional income, not much maybe an extra £200/month would be more than enough.
My problem is I don't know whether my photographs are worthy of selling. Ofcourse I will either frame them or Block mount it. My other problem is I don't know where where to start.
Could anyone help me please..???
Thanks,

But, does a viewfinder magnifier help with manual focusing?
