What I'd be interested in seeing is how the 16-45 compares with the 18-55. I'd always expect a zoom lens to get spanked by a good prime, especially at wider apertures.

Warehouseexpress lists the 40mm F2.8 DA at £219 which is still quite a lot for a short telephoto lens that slow. For Nikon or Canon you could either get a 35mm F2 for the same cash (which will also work on a full-frame camera).

Sigma do a 30mm F1.4 for digital which is £277 (and not available in Pentax) but that lens is much faster and a more useful focal length.

I don't mind all these limited lenses being released but I'm not really all that likely to buy one. I do hope that Pentax will put some effort into releasing some lower price primes as well.

I'll forgive the prime lenses their lack of speed if they're cheap!

Plus the
DA 21mm F3.2AL (June 2006 tentatively)

Should make a nice standard lens for the *ist-D series

F3.2 though - that's very, very slow for a prime.

A oddish set of lenses:

DA 70mm f/2.4 (expected around October, 2006)

Not sure what that's for as it's quite slow unless it's a Macro.

DA 16-50mm f/2.8 (expected around December, 2006)
DA 50-135mm f/2.8 (expected around December 2006)

I'd be tempted by both of them if they're not too heavy and not too expensive. That'll be a no then... If it had been a 50-135mm F4 then I'd be very keen.

With the Canon it wouldn't matter if the flash worked or not because the kit lens is so bad you wouldn't be able to tell what it was you'd taken a photograph of...

"I'm not a technician by any means, but I've had many great shots with the AF200S on the DL"

Isn't the case with the AF200S that it's the flash controlling the light output (with the appropriate aperture set on the lens & camera) not TTL from the camera body?

I'm very glad I bought a DS instead of a DL now as my AF400FTZ would have been almost useless with it.

I've used an AF200S on my DS with good results.

Given the size of the think and the aperture and zoom ranges I'd expect it to be a decent performer. If a similar lens were available in AF I'd consider one myself as it could be a useful compromise between a fast F2.8 (too heavy to carry all the time) and a slow F5.6 (too soft and slow).
