Tamron SP300 f2.8 or DA*300 f4
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
Thanks for the comment everyone, weather not good at weekend for comparison, big difference in weight and the DA seems fairly sharp at f4. I think the Tamron may have to go it will be a wrench as it does perfom well on my DS but I have never been happy with it on my K20d Mick

I have been offered a used da*300 f4 at a reasonable price, as I already have the Tamron 300 2.8 which I use with my 1.7 adapter I would like your thoughts as I know that a few of you out there have both or have experience of them. I donít think I could justify keeping both to the wife !!! With the weather as it is at the moment its not the best time to compare them. Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks Mick

Neil All 3 are excellent, if you have the chance to try them go with what you think feels right. (I did the same last year and went for the Tamron) Mick
Which battery for Pentax Kx?

I would certainly recommend the Sanyo eneloop, I have 2 sets for my Ds (1 spare set kept fully charged). Not a clue what the shutter count would be but they seem to last for ages. Mick

Hi All Just wondered if anyone out there is using this monitor or has any comments on it. My old Sony crt has just about had it, this is about the top of my budget and appears to get quite good reviews. Any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks Mick
1.7x converter
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
Steve I have a 1.7x which I use on my Tamron 300 2.8, when used with my dS I am more happy with (virtually no CA) but I could never seem to get such good results when used with my K10D donít know why as no one has been able to offer any ideas. I have recently been lucky to obtain a nice used K20 but the weather has been so bad that I have had little opportunity to try this combination out . If you get the chance to buy one do so, mine spends most of the time on the 300 or my 90 2.5 Tamron. If you can find one you wonít be disappointed, trouble is they go for quite a high price nowadays Mick

Chris One of the reasons I am considering an iMac is that my son has gone through university with a mac mini and is now working as a graphic designer with it and over 4 years it has never missed a beat, they seem to be reliable. Mick

Hi all Not wanting to start another Mac v PC debate but I am considering an i Mac after having 2 motherboards fail in 3 yrs on my diy pc. Just interested in your thoughts on reliability and screen quality of the new iMacs (I have been using a crt Sony Trinitron which is I also fear getting near the end of its life).Luckily I have access to the software I would need in Mac format Thanks Mick

Thanks guys, I was looking at the 150 size as I thought it would be usable hand held with SR on, the 180 Iím thinking would need a tripod most of the time. Maybe will have to stick with the trusty old sp90 and 1.7 af converter for the time being, thanks for your commentís Mick

Sorry to get you started Mike :) should have checked it was available for us, will have to have another think, the 180 may be a tad to long thanks anyway,

Hi All Interested in the above lens to give me a little more reach than my old SP90 Tamron for "shooting" dragons and butterflies. Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated Thanks Mick

Steve Thanks for the feedback, let me know how you get on when you get a 1.7x (best of luck in finding one at a sensible price) Mick

Hi Steve My 1.7x is on my 60b 300 nearly all the time with my Ds and I love the combination. I would be interested to know which body you are going to use as I have never been very happy with my results when I have used my K10, this combination seems to produce quite a lot of CA (purple fringing) in my images. Mick

Hi all Last year I purchased the K10 to use on this lens combination having previously used it on my Ds and been very pleased with the restuls. I have been disappointed with the amount of ca in the images taken with the K10 in comparison to the Ds. I have been very pleased with other lenses used on the K10. I have considered trading the K10 for a K20, the theory being the cmos sensor may produce less ca than the ccd on the K10. An expensive experiment I know, so I wondered if anyone out there has experience of this combination or any comments/thoughts would be appreicated. Thanks, mxds

35mm DA Ltd
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
Hi RR I have had my 35mm da since last summer and I think it is a cracker. I agree with John for bugs you need a little more reach (I use an old Tamron 90 2.5), but used with care insects and bugs can be caught ( I've put 2 pics on my portfolio recently) Its also a smashing walk about lens. BUY IT !! :D:D:D

Hi all I know their not Pentax,:( but I like playing with old folders and I wondered if any of you out there could recomend a reasonable processing house for 120 films in the uk, obviously not to pro. standards as most of my films are just to try the old cameras out. Thanks Mick

Thanks to all your helpfull replys. (This forum is GREAT) My local shop allowed me the opportunity to play with the lens last weekend and as been said it does appear to be a very nice lens. Sadly I noticed what I think are minute spots of fungus on the zoom assembly :( Still hopefull of a deal if they could clean and service. Mike

Thanks everyone Still undecided as I like the 80-320 as a walk-about and the 100-300 is a bit to big for that. My photgraphy interest is mostly wildlife and my lens for this is a Tamron SP. 300 2.8 with af1.7 on a K10D. I like the flexibility of the zoom though which I use on a Ds. Matt ?, how do you find CA is with the 100-300 on the K10D. I find it sometimes (depending on lighting conditions) a problem with my Tamron and the K10D but not bad on the Ds. Mick
