Thanks again for the replies guys.

The reasons behind swapping the 105 for a Pentax 100 are 3 fold. Firstly is the weight, second filter size and thirdly is the WR. This will go in hand very nicely with the WR of the K20D for times when the weather is less than perfect.

Currently I'm going with the 15mm & 31/35mm depending on funds.

With regards to the teleconverter, are there any that are considerably better than others?

thanks,

Matt

Thanks for all the replies so far guys, seems like a can of worms has been opened!

Ive been giving this a lot of thought lately, as when I do go away I'd like to have all bases covered with a minimum of equipment.
I mentioned about purchasing a KR as lightness is one of the main objects of the exercise. Having thought about this though the weight I will be saving on not having zoom lenses will far outweigh the extra weight of the K20D, also the weather sealing will be very useful. I've been reading Ken Rockwells website for quite sometime, and after reading his articles on carrying less I was getting worried about every gram!

Out of the lenses so far that I will be purchasing, the Pentax 100mm is a very strong possibility. The other 2 so far could go anywhere.
I like the idea of the 15mm for the wide end, but the middle ground seems to be up for debate. There is the 31mm, although it is slightly pricey. Assuming the 100mm will take care of Tele & Macro, which lens would be suitable for low light work?

Whilst I do currently have a 12-24 lens, I would like to just have use of primes for these trips. The idea is to get everything purchased now so that when it comes to it I will be a dab hand using them.

Also, one thing that had slipped my mind until this evening was teleconverters. this could be a useful addition for extra range on the Tele lens.

Thanks all

Matt

Afternoon everyone,

hope you are all away taking wonderful photographs over the bank holiday weekend. Ive got a couple of holidays coming up in the near future, and I would like to pack as light as possible.
I currently have K20D with Pentax 12-24 lens, tokina 28-70 2,8 lens, Pentax F50 1.7 & Sigma 105 2.8 macro.

I would prefer to stick with primes, as I feel they will give me better results versus weight. I'm not particularly interested in a super zoom lens.

My plan so far is to perhaps purchase a KR body as it is lighter than the K20D, and purchase another prime lens to go along with the F50 1.7 and Sigma 105mm. I am considering swapping out the Sigma for a Pentax 100mm macro to keep the filter size consistent.

What I would like from the 3 lenses, are a wider angle, standard, and tele lens with one of them having macro capabilities.

With this in mind, which of the Pentax primes would you buy? Or indeed, which 3 lenses would you choose?

Over to you

Thanks for all of the replies so far guys, looks like the 12-24 is the way to go.
Next question is are there any differences between the Samsung and Pentax 12-24's?
I know that the cameras are near identical, but wondered about the lens's?

Afteoon all,

I would like an ultra wide angle lens for my K20D to take photos of the kitchens and joinery I make once installed. I dont have a fixed budget in mind, just the most suitable lens is required for the job.
Thoughts so far are:
Pentax 12-24
Sigma 10-20
Tamron 10-2?
or hold out for the Sigma 8-16

What do you recomend?

Over to you

Matt

Afternoon all,

I have recently bought a Pentax K20D with Tokina 28-80 F2.8 lens.
I made the jump from an E410 Olympus, I have wanted to upgrade for a while, but felt the Olympus range too narrow compared with what is available for Pentax.
Im from Hertfordshire, and luckily for me (unlucky for my bank balance) I am only a very short drive from SRS, which is where I bought my camera.
My girlfriend and I are looking to buy our own house in the very near future, so I have a sneaky suspicion I will have to acquire my arsenal of lenses in very short order

All the best

Matt
