I really don't get this fondness for mono. It's like a hankering for shite old gramophone records. It exists because of a historical limitation in technology.

If they'd figured out colour from the start, mono in photography would be be just another curious Photoshop effect that no one uses.

It's like listening to music played on just the drums. No melody, just the rhythm.

It's not pleasant. It's just part of a view.

I'm not a fan.

That made me chuckle - you #@#@...!

And after all I've done for you, too!

Black and white? That's like a fax, right?

Or can we have gray tones, too?

Fairly standard DPreview: excessively wordy; and critical of things that are a matter of taste.

I have one of these lenses and love it - especially at f1.4.

My opinion is to go with anything other than Skyports.

Look up several of my other posts on the subject. In short, they are no better than eBay triggers but at ten times the cost. Support from Elinchrom is atrocious! Quality for their equipment (remotes and lights) is sub-par.

Others seem to have better luck with the remotes, so I don't know if they ever had to deal with the support side.
I have a couple of Skyport sets. I've had no trouble with them at all. Good range. Good battery life and perfectly reliable.

he, he, Sorry.. should have caught this the first time... The Metz doesn't know about PTTL does it?
Yes. The 58-AF1 does PTTL.

I've sussed it now. I suddenly noticed where the sensor for reading the control signal flashes is tucked away. It's on the left side (from the rear) of the flash under the head pivot. This makes gives it a good 180 degree view of the left side of the flash but the right side is completely blind.

Guess which side I had ALWAYS had the flash facing the camera while playing with it!

Thanks for all the replies. I've read just about everything there is on the subject now.

I'm enquiring here about master/slave operation where the K20D acts as a master and the pop-up flash is used purely to trigger the Metz as slave. It plays no part in illuminating the scene.

Where can I find some documentation on how this is supposed to work. Neither the Pentax handbook nor the Metz's give any details.

I've sort of got it working but It seems that the Metz needs to be directly in front of the camera and facing forwards to pick up the signal. Which significantly limits its usefulness.

Thanks for any insight.

"I'm looking for pictures which show off Autumn's colours."

I had Autumnal images in mind but if you can show off Autumn's colours some other way, go for it.

I hope that helps.

I'm involved in an exhibition at the end of this month (25th-27th) with a few other photographers and we find ourselves short of display space in what is a fairly large, empty venue in Bracknell, Berkshire.

Does anyone know where I might be able to borrow some display stands in the area? They need to be able to hold prints up to A2 in size.

I'm more than happy to do all the fetching and construction and will guarantee their safe return.

Thanks in advance for any help.
