Just picked up the 18-55mm WR Kit Lens as your advice made sense.

Very tempted to add the 100mm but also wondering how much use I would get out of it. I know and like the Tamron so, while it's not WR, in no rush to replace that, but maybe something in the 50-200mm might be handy. covers the slight gap in my focal length but also gives me a WR option with more reach.

To be fair I don't actually mind the 18-55, even in non-WR it's a decent enough lens. Just seems slightly daft not to get a faster/constant aperture. I do, do photography in poor light and while the K50 has decent ISO range, still better to keep the ISO as close to 100 as possible.

Surprised anyone would even buy a 18-55 kit lens, ironically I have two, the first came with my old K200, and the other with my second camera, a K100D. I've used the Tamron before with the K200 (it was stolen) so bought another because it was a lens I felt comfortable with.

Selling the 18-55's, buying a 16-50 seems to make sense. The 100WR macro is something I was eyeing up too.

SRS are doing the 16-50 for 349 used, so looks like I could potentially get both for £100 over budget, but recoup some back from selling the 18-55's and 'maybe' the K100?

Thanks so far guys.

Yeah not looking to buy new, I know I won't get anything (unless there's a 3rd party lens that's WR I don't know about) for that budget new. Definitely looking at used gear.

Hi Folks,

I've just picked up a K50, finally allowing me to properly upgrade but I'm lacking on weathersealed lenses, but hopefully will be able to pick one up soon, just not sure which one.

I currently cover 18-55 and 50-300 with my zooms which are a standard non WR Pentax Kit and a Tamron zoom. I also have a manual focus 50mm f1.7 PKA.

I do quite a range of stuff, from street photography to architecture, some portrait work, landscapes and am always experimenting.

I'll probably have a budget of around £500 for a single Weather sealed, fixed aperture lens. It can be Pentax, or not, and can be fixed focal length or a zoom, just looking for suggestions. So I don't want something like a 50-200 DA WR as it's covering focal lengths, and has similar max apertures to my current lenses. If it's a zoom it needs to be a F4 or F2.8.

So over to you, suggestions please.

Thanks

Kat

Having had my K200 stolen last year and being unable to replace it with anything more modern the thing this article has done for me is to convince me to look at getting a K100D. Ultimately I still want something with better ISO options, but the K100D (my first DSLR incidently) will do me just fine. I wouldn't go down to the *ist series though purely because I'd like SR.

There's a short article in AP which is interesting for us Pentax Users. They are comparing the *ist DL with a K500 and also the original software with current photomanipulation software. The conclusion is that while, of course, the K500 is a substantially better camera, with modern software, in favourable conditions, the older DSLR is very very capable and largely indistiguishable even if printed out at A3.

I'd love the K50 but going to do my best to budget for the K500 - best entry level camera out there IMHO - and great successor, it would seem, to the K-r/x

Pentaxforum have just added K50 AND K500 sections which implies they have some information that means TWO DSLR's are being announced. PF users also wonder how much of the spec isn't correct - they feel lot of the numbers don't add up and the spec is a partially edited K30 spec (weight for example being the same) and thus don't read a lot into the spec.

Thanks, they seem a bit slow and tricky to contact so other options would be appreciated.
