Hi all,

Went out today and took some general shots in the local Nature Reserve. I was very pleased with the results on the Computer, and then when I put them on my Nexus 7 Tablet, they were amazing. Glad I bought the lens. Big learning curve for me though.
Using AP with Matrix and 11 point.

Regards

Thanks John.

Can anyone share what Autofocus setting they use with the 30mm 1.4 when using it as a walkabout lens?

Thanks

Geoff

Thanks Ken, I was beginning to realize that, but no matter. It just reminded me of the Minolta 45mm days on the ST100

Hi John and all,

Just bought the Sigma 30mm 1.4EX from SRS - as you said free postage.

Should be with me on Monday.

Thanks to all for the various comments.

Thanks John,

I cannot see if the Sigma has an aperture scale as well as the distance scale which I can see on the image. I have seen some fantastic picture from this lens, so might well bite the bullet.

Do anyone know which dealers offer discounts to Pentax Plus members please?

Anyone use one?

Cheers

Geoff

I took my 18-55 out today and shot outside at 35mm and then 18mm and have decided that 35mm is far better for me, so I am thinking of the SMC35mm2.4.

I would have bought it at £139 but of course they did not have any in. others want £150/£160. I am thinking about the Sigma 30mm 1.4 as well, but it is £269 and I would not know how much better for me it would be, but I could shoot at the Hyper-focal point (I think) which does attract me. Pardon my ignorance, but I assume I could getfaster shutter speeds at a smaller aperture with this, which would help Landscape stuff.

Geoff

Looking at your needs I'm not sure a prime would really work...have a look at the DA17-70, Tamron 17-50 or Sigma 17-70, all would give improved IQ over the kit lens with the added versatility to cover the varied range you require.

Personally, whilst this could be controversial I've tried a few primes..DA35mm F2.4, DA40mm, DA15mm, FA50mm 1.4, 50mm A 1.7 and currently own the DA21mm - in my experience it's only really the 50mm lenses that significantly outperform the DA17-70 in any respect.

Just my thoughts

Thanks all.

I am coming round to think this or probably the Sigma would perhaps be the way to go.
Still thinking about the 21mm and the 35mm, but if I can convince myself that for the likes of me, I would not really notice the extra sharpness of a prime, then this would suit, as I think I would get bored with a prime. Not cheap though, and you can get the 18-125 or 18-250 for the same sorts of prices or less.
