I have the 50-200 on my K100D and its a really good value lens. Sure, it may not be perfect but i paid only £80 for mine (which happens to be the Samsung equivilent) and that is a true bargain!

Look out for the samsung version... its the same but cheaper!

I say go for it, no better value option i don't believe.

Evening all,

I am interested in getting your opinions regarding suitable lenses for a wedding. Now, first of all i want to stress that i am not getting paid for taking any photographs at this wedding (which happends to be my aunties), simply i have been asked to bring my camera along, as have a few other folk, since they are not getting a pro.

Now, if an opportunity like this arises i always like to grasp it with both hands and take it seriously. However, i have not had an awful lot of practice and the wedding is in two weeks. Particularly i feel i need to brush up on my flash photography and get to know my 360! that however, is another matter...

my lens line up includes the K100D with the DA18-55, DA50-200 and the 50f1.7A. Now i love the 50, but do find manual focus pretty tricky, especially in low light (which would be the main pro for the 50 - its speed!) and i am so afraid of missing 'the moment'. I have therefore been thinking about investing in a fast auto focus prime. Now, i dont feel i should double up on the 50, and am angling towards something wider to give me a bit more flexibility. I am thinking a Pentax SMCP-FA 35mm f/2 AL. This is a good value lens, and rated very highly it would seem.

What would your thoughts be on this in a wedding situation, based on the 1.5 crop, i guess were looking pretty 'normal' eh? I was also thinking of the 40mm limited, but this doesnt seem to get rave reviews for the price, and is similar to the 50 in FOV.

Right, well enough of the ramblings... i guess i just need a comfort call from you knowledgable folk before i go buying!

I am not simply buying this for this one occassion, i am keen to invest in glass, but a fast auto focus would be so usefull on the day! (so has maybe brought the purchase forward by a month or so!) I get the feeling they would like some informal shots, a few candids, a few group shots and maybe a few full length portraits, all to be taken by anyone with a camera really! All very relaxed... (one hopes)

So, any advice would be greatly apprecited!

Best regards

Dave

(and i'll see you in the flash section angling for tips when using my 360 flash and omnibounce! )

So... are they considered to be as good as the Pentax? because i hear they are likely to be rather cheaper... and if they are cheaper, then lucky Canon and Nikon at getting cracking 'pentax' glass at great prices.

Assuming this is actually a cracking lens, that is...

Hi, as a long time silent stalker of this board, i do now and again pop my head out of the water to pick your wise and wonderful brains on a matter or two... and today i ask the question of the Tokina 16-50 f2.8.

Now, with all the fuss about the Pentax 16-50 f2.8 DA*, how does this baby differ optically, conisering it is created alongside our beloved Pentax engineers? I have heard so many mixed bag reviews of the Tokina, and although i am aware that the Tokina does not have weather sealing, silent foussing and maybe it doesnt even have an SMC coating, is it optically so different from the DA*? (recalling it is half the price, is it not?)

Although i have not yet been able to see the actual Tokina sample photos (has the sample page been removed?) i can't imagine sales would have benefited from talk like this here... http://www.photozone.de/active/forum/ShowMessage?ID=1081055A

So, is anyone aware as to how this lens is related to the DA*? Even just out of interest, I'd love to know...

oh, and i realise that, even though it is a Tokina/Pentax, is it even available in K-mount!?

Best regards

Dave

Hi,

I've just purchased the Samsung 50-200 and i have to say i am very pleased with it! I did alot of research on here and other forums and all reports were good... What a bargain lens!

I got mine here...

http://www.microwarehouse.co.uk/catalogue/item/SAMDCA02

There is a certain amount of speculation as to whether this is an 'exact' copy of the pentax, but i think it is... i even suspect it has SMC coating, but Samsung are not allowed to label it as such.

Go for it!
