Surely it's the 'cheek' to post that?

My way into digital was via a slide scanner. It was a steep learning curve. There's a lot more to do in terms of colour correction and dust and scratch removal. Each film will also have different characteristics and you will need to apply different techniques in whichever image processing software you use.

Although I'm pleased and satisified to see my slides come to life on the screen, the quality is far less than I imagined it would be, digital has come a long way. Still, if quality is not your primary aim, as suggested, there are other ways to copy them, such as flat bed scanners and macro lenses which may be far better for personal use.

I still get a thrill fromm seeing a slide or negative from years ago appear before me but it's going to take me quite a long time to work through my back catalogue and digitise the images I want.

I think it's well framed and a powerful portrait. I'm trying to decide if I'd think 'homeless' without the context of the first picture. I'm maybe thinking widening the field of view to set more context might have portrayed 'homeless' better but really I'm being slightly churlish as I think it's very good (my acid test is would I have liked to have taken that picture and the answer is yes).

Pretty much most things are on default. I did something with the custom function some time back but can't remember precisely what. Just running back through it now, there's a few things I want to play with and check but not too many.

....what every single function button on their camera does and how to use it? I don't. I just read my manual again and had a few "ahhhh, that's how you do that" moments. I remember the main bits but the stuff I don't use so often, no.

Anvh, I just compared a file opened in photolab and saved to Tiff with the same one directly opened with CS2. The CS2 file was much better, a smoother histogram and better pixel representation (don't know if I'm describing that correctly), less fringing i.e. the outer edge pixels were more correct from CS2 whereas the edge was harsher on the Tiff. From now on I shall use Photoshop to open my PEF files. Haven't explored dng yet.

I got that. How do you report stuff anyway?

Pascalina is probably a 50 year old tatooed arm wrestler called George.
