Ahh
The world is so confusing and annoying.. There are very few shops that actually stock and can demonstrate a range of tablets.
All the reviews on the web contradict each other and feedback on products is by customers that have had problems.
The only sensible advice was given at the Apple store. PC World makes up the answers to some questions just to get you to buy - the correct answer is windows 8 on the surface tablet is a stripped down version and only supports software that is made for windows 8.(from the product website)!
So, buying a tablet is like buying a camera only the product is not quite as cute when displayed on a shelf or as comfortable in the hand.
Still I am assured that in two weeks time a range of new tablets are due out which should bring the prices of existing products tumbling down.

I solved that by having only one door - at the side and a bell that does not work

Great excuse for not answering the door when uninvited guests call What a day - discovered that my back door bell had demised

wow what a debate
I am looking for a device that:
- connects to the internet by wifi and tethering to my 3G phone (no mobile contract needed)
- has an sd card facility for reviewing photos in the field.
(I don't need to edit photos)
- fairly sturdy as it will be in the campervan when we travel
- has reasonable sound for checking up bird species from online sites
- has a reasonable size screen. 10" is my preference I think
- the ability for note writing would be useful
other thoughts
I don't intend to watch movies on it
I would like to store and access my 1" series OS map software so windows or android systems would be helpful
I gave up on apple years ago when they started adding their niche pricing. However at the right price I could be persuaded I suppose
I don't need another camera, but I suppose all tablets have one or even two!!!!
My notebook is not being used by me much- my daughter uses it more so there may be a deal here coupled with some amazon vouchers...
Separate question - what do you use your tablet for?
