Interesting Darryl.

I could accept that explanation if it was no photography at all, but it is a specific ban on DSLRs. P&S cameras, phone cameras, film SLRs, system cameras. All allowed, but not DSLRs. Many of these have image quality as good as, if not better, than say a intro level DSLR with a kit lens.
I would have thought that it would be possible to filter out IR and Ultrasonic technology, as used in DSLRs in the same way as it is possible to block RFI from other technologies. Not my field of expertise at all, so please treat it as a guess.

PS: I am seriously disinterested in post-editing. I point, I click, I move on, I view later. The fewer the buttons, the greater the fun.

It is not a general ban on the London Underground, only at Aldwych tube station, which is normally closed.
It is a bizarre ban I agree, but it only applies to that station when open for tours, not the entire network.
It is not a breach of the OSA to inform you that I used to work in MoD deep level tunnels which run below (among other places) Aldwych, as this information is now freely available.

For some years, the security services (MI5) have been working on and selling various unwanted sections of their network of tunnels and citadels, which were built to protect important telecomms cables etc pre-cold war era. No photography is probably for the best, if you catch my drift.

PS: i'm looking at the models and lenses you guys are recommending but can't comment yet as it's all a bit of a blur....sorry, I mean a mental bokeh.

edited to add the 'ps'

I'm currently selling my LX and associated gear because i'm going digital. In the years I have owned my LX, I have never had a moments trouble with it. Prior to this I owned another LX and an MX, neither camera have been any less than a joy to use.

The difficulty I now have is that I can't find a camera at a reasonable price which matches the build quality and sheer simplicity of the LX!! The nearest I have found is the Leica M series and that's probably where i'm heading to spend thousands of pounds on one camera body and a couple of lenses, because nothing else beats my LX and my now sold 50mm f1:1.2. The camera was CLA'd some years ago when my father owned it and I haven't used more than 50 rolls through it since I have owned it. As far as I am concerned, it is spot on but as the other guys here have said, having it CLA'd by Harrow would really set your mind at ease.

If you want a trouble free camera which was built properly, buy my LX, LX case and Pentax strap for £250. If you have any doubts about me, please take a look at the various items I have recently sold to other members of this forum and the feedback I have had from them. I wouldn't mind you asking them directly about how they found me to deal with.

I would prefer it if my LX went to a good home and to a member of this forum, which is why it's not on ebay or any other site. If you want to know more, please let me know and i'll email you some photos of it.

Hope this helps.

I'd like to buy a new (D)SLR as i'm moving from film to digital. I've sold almost all of my film gear, except for my LX (open to sensible offers) and a few lenses and i'm looking for a digital replacement.

What do I want to use it for? I want to use it like a rangefinder eg Leica M9, with a couple of lenses, for street, travel, reportage, so I don't want a bag full of gear to cart around like a snail with its home on its back, just a body and one or two lenses.

What would you recommend I look at in the Pentax range and why?

Regards,

Darryl
