Suddenly, this seems like a useful feature.
Thanks for sharing

I took his humorous rant as tongue-in-cheek snobbery designed to make people think out of the box. Thinking differently is not something you can teach.
I was already bored of my own work, and immediately empathised with his point. But needs must.
There are numerous tutorials out there and it wouldn't surprise me if you (Don), could teach him a few tricks, I suspect his main talents are less tangible, and all the more valuable. Or he just got lucky! and has a team of creatives and technicians
Anyway all this conjecture is keeping his post alive and fueling his marketing which is all cool.

This just used the brolly on Her Indoors. With girlie processing.

It's not going to win Ben over but the clients love it. So for now, I prostitute myself and imagine endless hours in bohemian bars dreaming up exotic situations and avant garde lighting with snoots and barn doors and Tuscan sunset pouring thru a broken window onto a half-dressed red haired beauty putting perfume under the ear of a tatty old teddy... with a patch on his eye...... yeah, and he's smoking... and there's this other shadow on the wall...
oops sorry... (cough)

John you connection is considerably faster then mine (say in Brummie accent).
But I have always known my Sky connection was rubbish (used to be on Virgin till some cost saving were made in the household )
but that isn't the problem here.
I'll reset my router and and get back to you.
I'd be faster with my answers but well... you know.

a friend once described them as 'no skill, just fill'
The brolly is a fantastically versatile diffuser you can by them for peanuts carry them anywhere and rubber band them to any remote flash. et voila! soft shadow edges instead of hard ones (use number one).
My image was taken in a hurry. I needed a 'look', in a tight space... I got it. I knew exactly what I was doing, I got what I wanted and she was delighted.
Later in the week I took an industrial air conditioning duct, cut it to 1.5 feet and attached it to a studio head to create very large snoot, which I fired across a room onto a rugged fellow to create a more defined and masculine look. Umbrella stayed in the bag, but I didn't feel the need to write a blog about it, or invent a stupid one liner.
