Just curious as to how you guys deal with the Noise on the K20D?
Im finding the noise @ 800 iso really bad and in all honesty 400 iso isnt great either.
I shoot in Raw and have Noise Ninja but even that is struggling with the noise.
I assume the In camera NR does not apply to Raw images.
To give a comparison i have shots taken @ 1600 iso with a Canon 40D that are cleaner than 400 iso with K20D.

It was Barons Haugh in Lanarkshire, Scotland

Last one is a topper, well done.
Looks like the fly in the first is Laying a Stick.

Went down to an RSPB reserve today, noise was deafening but visual sightings were few and far between, had to settle for a couple of hand held shots.

That sounds really strange, will do some tripod tests over the next few days but i have to confess i wont be a happy bunny if its not sharp @ 400mm f8.
Everything was blowing about today so its probably really unfair to judge it.
I have the 120-400mm and find it a very good lens indeed. I use it more or less everyday and find it very reliable. I also love the size and weight of it. Take it out on a bright day with none of that pesky wind and you will have some fantastic shots.

How long have you had it?

Paul
Hi Paul
Those shots were all taken within 2 hours of getting the lens so i cant really judge it until i get a good few more hours of solid use with it.
The feeder and branches from those ones were blowing anything from 1 inch to 6 inches and the sun was high and around 11 o'clock to my position so that didnt help either.

Nice and sharp shots. #3 and #7 are really funny, I like them, shame that #7 is a bit noisy (seems to be oversharpened?)
Thanks
Number 7 was a total opportunist shot, the bird (whitethroat i believe)was perched on a tree about 30 meters away and i did a handheld burst of 4 pictures with a 15 to 20 miles an hour wind hitting me side on.
Its not a common bird in my area so i thought any shot was better than none.

i find my sigama 150-500mm apo dg hsm soft at 500mm at f6.3 and doesn't get sharp untill f10, its a pain so i have brought a sigma 170-500mm apo dg non hsm, and its alot sharper at 500mm,f6.3, its sharper at f6,3 than f10 on the 150-500mm,

some nice shot by the way,
